I am curious when the rut usually begins in NM. Is it the same as here in AZ and the further south you go the later it is?

Last year I drew a Jan bowhunt in 2B , we went on the last rifle hunt with a friend who drew it and saw some nice bucks already with alot of doe , we went back the first weekend in Dec to scout and video and saw the rut in its action . We saw some toads , and two and three bucks tailing one doe at the same time . I've never experianced the rut nor such big mulies as what my dad and I saw in Dec. , it was truely amazing ! My hunt started Jan.15th , and we saw some real good bucks still with does , but the four largest bucks we saw and hunted were by them selves , two were together. I know every year it changes a few days apart according to weather , but I think the peak of the rut happens around the first ten days fo Dec . , some rutting action is seen in late Nov and I've spoke to a game warden in unit 4 that said he's seen bucks mounting does at the end of Dec . My bowhunt this year starts Jan 1st , so I hope a few does come into estrus late.....NMHUNTNUTT

I was in 2B in January on the same hunt (nice snow and mud) but they were chasing does hard. I have heard though December is best.

Last year my wife had the last Rifle hunt. The bucks started chasing Doe's towards the last few days of the hunt.
