These were sent to me via email with this story. I thought the MM Members would like to see...

thought I'd tell you guy's a pretty amazing story. About 1 month
ago
my brothers went out on the opener of the archery and saw quite a few
bucks. They had a few that they were really trying to get to. My
brother Jer shot at one and missed. My brother Wes shot one but they
couldn't find it that night. They went back up hunting in that area,
looking for it while they hunted but never saw it. I went out with
them
a couple of times, but again we didn't see anything. Well this
morning
three of my brothers Joe, Jer, and Neil went out for the muzzleloader
opener. At 7:30 in the morning Jer saw a deer he recognized and shot
it. When he got up to it guess what deer it was. It was the one Wes
had shot with his bow. The arrow had gone in under the right eye, and
lodged there. So any way the It's Jer's deer now, and it's a pretty
dang nice 8 x 9.

That's gotta be the worst shot i've ever seen...
One heck of a buck though. Congrats to the hunter who Harvested it.

That's sad that that deer had to walk around like that. Not to pass judgement but no one should ever take a head shot at anything with a bow, just irresponsible as this picture clearly shows. Congrats for putting it out of it's misery.

Nice buck. To bad it had to go around for a month with an arrow sticking out the side of it's face. Where the heck is the rest of the arrow?

Attn. ethics police, I doubt that the archer was aiming at his nose & if the deer was faceing him the arrow would have went into his body cavity killing it, its more likely that the deer was broadside looking towards the hunter who missed to the left.

BTW, nice buck thanks for posting.

Cass,

Didn't you used to skip arrows of deers heads????

the only bobcat waiting for a reply!!!

PS: I am sure all of you "ethical" hunters that responded
have never made a bad shot!

Bad shots happen but you still feel sorry for the deer walking around with a arrow in his face.

Deer get hit by cars all the time but I still feel bad seeing a half dead deer smashed up on the side of the road.

I'm sure the guy that shot the buck in the face feels bad to and learned from it.

Things happen with a bow I guess....A buddy of mine here at work guides antelope hunters in Wyoming. He had a guy this year take facing shot, when the goat was drinking and hit it square in the head. My buddy has a "draw blood your done" rule he said so the guy had to watch the goat run off and start to chill with an arrow sticking out of his head. I am going to ask if anyone ever got it dring rifle season tomorrow....Nice buck man though, and a cool story~

Man you have to have that guy mounted with the arrow still attached, what a great story. That reminds me of the story a few months ago of the construction worker who had a nail in his skull and thought he had a migrain, Xrays showed the nail and he made internet history.

Well at least this one has a happy ending, its all the ones that dont that bother me.....Heck of a buck, way to go!

I deleted the pics due to the ethical police passing judgment. I don't know the guys in these pictures but I will give them the benefit of the doubt

I know of these 5 Brothers because I work with one of them. Long story short one brother on the bow hunt tryed to shoot this deer in a quartering away shot looking back at him, over estimating the distance that the buck was standing. The arrow hit right below the bucks eye and lodged into its nasil cavity. The arrow broke off and only the fletching part of the shaft was stuck in the bucks head. They tracked this buck all day long and the next with 4 people total looking for him. Then the bow hunt ended. So the next hunt was the muzzloader and being dedicated hunters they of course looked again for this same buck to try and finish him off. A total different brother found this buck and finished him off. He made an excellent shot killing the buck instantly. When they did finally find him they noticed that the buck was totally normal and was still running off other bucks and protecting his territory. My hats off to these brothers for sticking to it and finishing him off. I'm sure this was no easy task beating the scrub oak brush he was calling home. I can't believe that people would think that a guy would shoot a buck and hit it and not try and retrieve it! Although on many ocassions I personally have seen this happen in the field myself. But that's another story!!!

I know these Brothers also, they came and showed me the buck right after the kill at work. I don't know to many of you that would be that dedicated to finding a deer to finish it off. There were several other bucks around while looking for the 8x9. They passed on all of them tryning to find the buck.

So I think all you critical people out there can just say "Great Job Guys, Way to stick to it" rather than judging and being critical about some one HARD WORK.

I personaly think that those that are pointing fingers are just Jealous. I know that I am. Thats one hell of a buck.

Great Job!

I am sorry, this is fake so please stop talking about it, what did the buck do, roll over on the back of his neck to bust the arrow?

HAVE YOU EVER TRIED TO BUST A ARROW?

freakin retards "gawl"

I think that you need to learn a litle about hunting and arrows. It is very clear that you do not know a thing about hunting. I have seen LOTS of arrows break off. You can ask any one!

The only time I have seen arrows that did not break off were the ones that went clean through the body.

I think that you need to learn some lessons befor you start criticising people for being fake. YOUR FAKE!

BiggDildo you are even dumber then your name, ya i know an arrow can bust off if its in the body and the deer goes scrambling and tumbling and the wieght of his body snaps the arrow, but tell me, did this buck just happen to walk under a tree and accidently snap the arrow off out of the back of his head? and if its not broke off then what its burried 28" into his neck, I find either very hard to believe

For all you that are so concerned with this buck. I heard there has been talk regarding the buck and what went on. For your info, I am one of the brothers that hunted this buck for 3 weeks, I was there when the buck was hit both times. We had no plans of these photos getting out. The story will come out in a magazine soon enough. WE also have video of the buck in velvet the day it was shot with an arrow and the muzzleloader. For you that think there is always the perfect shot Your wrong! The bow shot was 65 yards quartering away, my brother guessed the yardage and made a shot that went higher than anticipated because of the elevation. 6 inches at 65 yards is not a bad shot. I'd dare say not too many people could actually challenge my brother at 60 to 70 yards. He consistantly hits vitals 90% of the time.
Regarding PhantomLords remarks about the arrow breaking off. I saw the buck 2 minutes after it was hit. The arrow had already been broke off, probably by a quick turn of the head or a quick kick of the leg. Stranger things have happened.

Sorry I got cut off. What I want to say to you all is forget the arrow, Look at the buck and appreciate that an awesome buck just got harvested on public land here in Utah. For your well being, there was zero infection in his head when we caped him out. The arrow went through part of his navel cavity and out behind its ear. Fortunetly it was not a gut shot where he may of ran off and died and never been found. It was a relief for us all when he was taken on the muzzleloader hunt and even a bigger relief to my brother who had made the archery shot. The buck scored 207 and some change and my brother who harvested the buck will write the whole story in a magazine. The video will also be out in the future. Good luck hunting! I hope you all enjoy a great season this year.

Lovinhuntin,

Pay no mind to Phantom Screwball (besides, where did he come up with that name). He is pissed because he spent the Utah deer hunt road hunting.

That is a great buck and a mistake anyone could of made (except for Phantom Idiot)!!!!!!!

The only bobcat waiting for another cyber know it all comment!!!!!!!!!

well if you read lovinhuntin's post you know it is fake,

first off, 65 yard shot quarting away and you happen to have just hit him straight on in the face, straight through the back of his head? holy smokes

second, try measuring from the top of his head to behind the lower front shoulder, THATS A TAD MORE THEN 6 INCHES

third, I want you to go try and break an arrow with a quick turn of a head or a quick leg kick, now granted i know that a mature buck like that is pretty strong, but I doubt he is jean claude van damming the arrow in two behind his head, and as far as just snapping his head against a tree aint going to get the job done

i mean really, how dumb do you think people are, for the most part this site is really awesome, but then sometimes i just have to shake my head, 99% of the people here have good stuff to share and some nice pictures, but I am sorry if I have had it with this phoney baloney crap,

Lovinhuntin,

You are right. That is one sweet buck. I think the contention that most of us have with it is the fact that your brother took a 65 yard shot at a quartering away deer that had him pegged. Because of the fact the deer was looking at him, you and your brother should both know that was a crappy shot to take. The deer had way too much time to react. You yourself said that your brother can hit the vitals only 90 percent of the time from that distance. And that is shooting at a non-moving target. Seems like a pretty risky gamble with a failure rate of 10 percent.

I am glad you got the buck but I too must agree with those who feel the shot selection was less than good.

Damn nice buck. Congrats on the hunt. Glad you guys were able to harvest him. We're talking a record class deer on the last day of the bow season (at least thats how I read it)with a shot thought possible by a bowhunter who yes made a poor shot...be it by wind, a twig or just plain buck fever, but went back on the muzzleloader hunt and killed the buck anyway. Kudos guys. I myself have never known ANYONE to make a bad shot ;)

That is an absolutely incredible buck whatever method of take. I must agree though with the poor shot selection.

LOL 65 yards a good shot Please man I have been reading this post all day. OK yeah he is a great buck and whoever shot the buck during the Muzzleloader season congrats on the awesome buck.
BUT WTF was the guy thinking Quartering away at 65 yards. Unless he shoots more arrows then 99% of the people in the world. He should have never taken that shot. I was waiting til i got a distance on this buck and 65 yards is way way too far for almost any bowhunter in the world. I shoot the latest and Greatest from Mathews with all the Fun Toys Carbon Arrows all that crap and shoot 1 1/2 inch groups at 40 yards and 3" groups at 50 yards. Give me a break with your 65 yard prayer shots and have more respect for the animal then I have to kill it and risk and Unethical and Wounding shot instead come back let the buck settle and stalk it again for the right shot. I passed several bulls this year and some Big ass Muley Bucks with my bow because the Shot was not right. Somebody needs to teach the archery hunter who shot this buck with that bad of a shot some common sense on what is a risky shot and what is a good shot.

For all the those perfect-shot placement people. I admire you for claiming that you would pass on that shot. First of all, there is never a perfect shot if you pull the trigger or release an arrow. Never!! All I here now days is of people with the latest and greatest in accessories and how far they can shoot and with such great accuracy. My brother took a shot that was well within Bow Range in todays standards. Every bow I have seen in the past several years has a pin up to 75 yards and some even as far as 100 yards. He passed on the good old texas heart shot that everyone claims is so safe and waited for a shot that would have allowed excellent penetration into its vitals. With all other factors involved BUCK FEVER alone should have an affect on anyone who takes a shot. If it doesn't get out of hunting. No one can claim they would pass up a shot if they felt comfortable taking it. If it hadn't been for the down hill drop in elevation we would all be admiring an even more incredible trophy taken by a bow. But welcome to the challenges of bowhunting. I do admire the folks that are so concerned about the well being of this awesome buck. I can tell you and there are many thousands who have wounded an animal from a bad shot for thousands of reasons. No one wants to wound an animal. However, there will always be that risk when taking any shot in the field at 20 yards, 65 yards or even 100 yards. Was it a bad shot according to some, Was it a good shot to many it was. Lets leave it at that and hopefully we will all make perfect shots in the future. Good Huntin to all

Lovinhuntin,

Great buck, congrats. Just from my experience this year with all the most up-to-date equipment, 60 plus yards is simply TO DAMN FAR for a hunting shot! Target practice is a whole different ball game. My Mathews bow package cost me more than I like to admit and after taking 4 big game animals this year I know I was pushing it with 45 yards. Animals move, targets don't, plain and simple. No need to get into an ethics debate here. There are several going on in other threads. I am so happy to hear there was an ending for that buck. Thanks for being a part of it and thanks for the update. Good luck the rest of the season.

At least you found him. Wonder how many hunters saw him with an arrow in his eye before you got him. Strong buck I'll say.

I just so happened to see this buck in person the same day that it was shot, and it is truly a magnificent buck!!! Phantom you need to shut your trap unless you have proof that this is fake. I saw the guy that shot this buck pull the fletchings out of the bucks face, and it had at least a 1 inch hole from where the broadhead went in. Yeah he had an unfortunate circumstance of shooting the buck in the face, but the dedication that these guys had to not only track the buck for hours that same day, but to come back a month later and track him down again is amazing!!! I can't wait to get the story when it is published and I will buy the movie too. Man all of you guys that are bagging on these brothers take a hike. Think of all the awesome memories and stories that they are going to be able to tell. I think most of the people in here are just jealous.
Jer congrats on a trophy of a lifetime!!!
