New to the site and wanted to ask a question to those who know Colorado. What are Tag Vouchers that you can purchase for Deer Seasons and how does that work in the mix with drawings etc? Where do they come from and how do people get these? What is a realistic cost? I was explained it as you can purchase a voucher bypass preference points and get for instance a tag in a given unit the year you purchase the voucher? Thanks for any help and great site love to read the posts.

Landowners with enough land (160+ acres) can apply for them and if they get them, sell or give them to whomever. Then the voucher is redeemed through the DOW and you purchase a license to hunt that particular unit. Vouchers can cost from $0-$5000 depending on the quality and how desperate you are to hunt that unit....Good luck, Steve

Elkohol,

A wise man will first attempt to draw his tag instead of relying on being able to buy a voucher. All of us have seen many cases where greedy voucher Pimps are selling vouchers in units where you could draw the tag. Do a little research first, try to draw a tag first. Even if you buy a voucher you still have to BUY the tag afterwards.

Hopefully this week the CWC will approve the requirment that the Landowners have to give the buyer permission to hunt they're land. That should help get rid of the internet "Tag Pimps"

If you draw a deer tag, then I am pretty sure that you can't buy another deer tag voucher. Only 1 deer per year. However, if you don't draw a tag, you can use a voucher to hunt the area it is issued for.

COHunter: I sure hope so. Anyone we can contact to help push this through?

What keeps these tag pimps from selling to many vouchers? If you have no bonus points, but want to attempt to hunt a better than average area is this a viable way to get a tag?
