Got lucky in Nevada!!
Traveled to NV and scouted in September but the biggest buck we saw was a 24+ forky. Returned the second week of the general season and never saw another hunter ? the way we like it. On the day this buck hit the ground we set up on a mid-elevation peak and had seen 6 bucks by 10 AM. I have to admit my hunting partners Donnie and Jeff spotted every one of the bucks we saw (ticks me off)! Two of the bucks were worth a closer look. My buck made a big mistake and bedded in some trees about 200 yards from an over-the-mountain-top escape. We glassed for another hour and decided the time to stalk was now or never. We crested the mountain an hour and a half later. My buddies could see the buck still bedded but I had a tree in the way. As I moved into position the buck took off. I missed, and he picked up the pace! The second shot knocked him a little sideways. Donnie reminded me to use my shooting stick and the third shot caused him to roll. The buck gathered himself and was off again. Two shots later (and after being coached to reload) the buck rolled down the steep terrain busting off his left antler 8 inches from the base (Yes- that's tape in the photo). Turns out my second shot went through the antler and made him dizzy enough to slow him to the point where I could finally hit him. He?s a hair short of the magical 30 without the cheater. His body was massive. He scored 40 inches less than last year?s Wyoming model but is definitely a keeper in my book. Besides, I don't have the catch-and-release thing figured out when it comes to bucks. I'd like to thank Donnie and Jeff for taking time off to help me with my quest. They are the best friends, guides, and packers money can't buy!

Nice buck, the body is huge... can't wait for my NV points to kick in one of these years...

Sorry for the typo. It's supposed to be DIY (Do-it-yourself).I guess a DYI could be a special type of DIY and stand for Do- yourself-in!
