thanks for responding..is this a valid place to try for keeper bucks..how many preference points how much pressure and are the federal grasslands a good place to try..thanks happytohunt

yes there are a some good bucks but there are very few deer in this unit to begin with. I guided the 1st plains rifle season this year and it was not a good hunt. Saw only small bucks with the does. We hunted prime leased land too! Which brings me to your question about the Pawnee NG. You might catch a deer moving through it but I wouldnt bank on hunting public land in 87. The habitat really wont hold deer. Antelope is a different story.

The december hunt is better. I hunted it myself a couple years ago and shot a old buck that has character but doesnt score well.
It takes 2-3 points to draw and there is about 25 tags per season (oct and dec.)so there isnt a whole lot of pressure. So all the good hunting is on private land. Some folks charge a pretty penny and some will let you on for free. Takes some legwork though. where are you from? I live in fort Collins.

live physically in wisconsin but huntin buddy and i venture west each fall for diy expeditions...your informatioon is helpful...sounds like a pretty long pull for a chance at a chance in this area 87...thanks happytohunt

It is possible but it is always good to scout or have a little cash for tresspass fees in this unit or any unit east of I-25 for that matter.
