Hi everyone,
I visit this site occasionally and I want to thank everyone for their congrats on my buck. I was extremely fortunate, and I appreciate everyone's kind comments.
I just want to clarify a thing or two mostly to defend my taxidermist. As any discerning eye could tell, that is not the cape from the actual deer. Bass Pro Shops wanted to display the rack on a shoulder or full body mount. My taxidermist could not have the head done in time, so I simply shipped the rack to Bass Pro Shops and they proceeded to mount it on one of the deer bodies that they had.
Jay Ogden, owner of Ogden Taxidermy in Richfield, Utah, will by doing the taxidermy on my buck, and anyone familiar with his reputation would know that any work he does on the buck will be flawless. I would not trust any taxidermist with my buck, however, I place wholehearted confidence in Jay. Unfortunately, for those of you who saw the deer displayed at Bass Pro Shops, you weren't able to see Jay's artistry. Hopefully in the future I can display the buck with his own cape brought back to "life" by Jay Ogden so you can see him how he lived and died.
Thanks for the compliments about the hair. I do have some styling tips if you want them. First you have to smash your hair down with a hat. Next you proceed to sweat buckets as you climb up and down mountains and cliffs. This gives your hair a nice wet look. After moistening the hair with lots of sweat, you crawl into a hot, sweaty tent and toss and turn all night as you wonder if you will have a shot at that giant buck in the morning. You also have to pull your hair out every now and then as things don't work out quite like you want them to. Finally, you have to kill the buck of your dreams to give your hair a little panache. I hope this helps.
Once again, thanks for your kind comments. I wish all of you well in your hunts this fall and hope that everyone gets the chance to live a dream as I was fortunate enough to do.
See you in the high country,
Jed Lowe
