Clean Camo

How many changes of clean camo would you take on a 14 day hunt? I've got 14 shirts and 7 pants. We generally chase bugles in the am and sit water in the pm.

You can always bring along some "Arm & Hammer" baking soda and hand wash them in a big pot ;-)

Maybe you could take along a generator and a washing machine?

I feel like I need a small trailor for just my clothes. Rather to have them and not need them than need them and not have them. You get pretty sweaty archery hunting Elk in Az so I shower and change everyday.

Couple of different sets then some earth spray to spray on them nightly. seems to work for us.

I take minimal changes. If you have a flowing creek nearby just throw some rocks on them and let them sit in the creek for a day of two and let the current do some wash. Clothes take up a lot of room in a pack. If your not packing in, or flying to your location, whats the diff?

If u have the room and are not packin in for an extended hunt in with the elk, the extra clean clothes are nice to have. Otherwise I would take a couple pairs of pants and maybe three shirts and just hand wash them and air dry. That's what I did on my eleven days hunting. Also, the air drying gets some of the natural surrounding scents to mix in with ur clothes -allot better than that scent-a-way stuff.

Good luck and be sure to post pictures of your success!

So let me get this straight. You have seven complete sets of camo plus seven more shirts?!?!?
Do they match?
Do you ever wear anything except camo?
Did you get married in camo?
Do you hunt for a living?
Do you sell camo for a living?
When you go out to dinner or to a party do you break out the "good camo"?

And I thought I liked clothes...

:)

If I'm on a 14 days elk hunt - I take all the camo I got ! Easy to fit in the new big zip lock bags and squeese all the air out - I take 5 full sets plus 10 camo t- shirts - I'd try to wash every other day . even if its heat water in a bucket! especially your hair!! - In the evenings we hang the clothes on limbs etc. to airout over night. A good day in the sun doesnt hurt either -

Take what you own - its easy to wash -by hand-stream etc to get rid of most odors - someguys use the scent stuff and - can really kinda over do it , in my opinion ! I do use scents but mostly odor elimnators - try to be scent free and use naural cover scent - twigs - leaves branchs of pine- juniper. Everyones different and you may hear lots of different ways .-

Try to stay as clean as you can! a dip in a cold creek is better than stinkin ! - good luck on your hunt ! MM

Funny you mention this: I just got back from CO and I saw a guy with a utility trailer haulin his four wheeler and a big ole chest freezer and generator!

Unless your hunting in a limited part of the White Mountains in AZ, we don't have streams. Water is at a premium here. Drinking and showering pretty well takes it up. Driving a Toyota Tacoma, I'm limited in how much I can really haul. I know, I should have a big white Ford with a 5th wheel but I don't. But actually I got all that camo into my one big duffel so I'm pretty set. I guess if I got desperate I could wash in a cattle tank or game drinker. Then I'd smell right! And by the way, camo is like guns. You can't have to many!

LAST EDITED ON Aug-30-09 AT 09:27PM (MST)[p]hello - i usually go a week early and set-up camp= bought old tent and chairs-yard sales. I'll stash extra jugs of water in the tent ! bottom of the icechest is frozen milk jugs full of water - if anyone else decides to come up ice chests with ice and extra water is what they are told to bring. Maybe 20 years ago I made a shower for camp. Take a big pot from a turkey fryer, put a flat aluminum lid on it and mount a 12 volt yacht pump from West Marine. Hooked up a hose and a shower head with a handle from HD and take a boat battery and good to go. We just put it on a propane burner and heat plenty of water up for two showers. You can heat water in the same pot for washing your clothes out. The pump is on demand so when you turn the shower head off the pump turns off. Been bullet proof for all these years and still works great.

just buy more pants. If you dont want to fork out the dough... spray them down real good with scent-away and let them air out. Or just spray down your clothes with elk piss!

Love it. Camo Kilts. I don't have those in my collection yet. I do have 4 5gallon water jugs. It's about 20 miles back to town to refill. Two of us using 2 gallons a day each for showering. Not too bad, every 5 days. Our only "steams" in Az are right after a moonsoon downpour and the streams last about a hour. Good luck to all.
