New to this site/elk hunting. Did some searches and scanning and didn't find much on these units so decided to post.

Lifetime whitetail hunter moved to CO and decided it's time to start up on this thing they call elk hunting. Drew a pref point this year but ended up with my third choice GMU 18/181 EE tag for 1st rifle.

My thought/hope was to hike in a spike camp (got all the gear) on some public land far enough back to get away from the crowds... if possible in these units...fill my tag and pack it out.

Going to scout just about every weekend from now till season?Anyone got any general areas/info they are willing to share so I'm not starting from scratch - gps cords, general areas, etc.

To be honest I've only tasted elk once in my life and it was great... so I'm not going to be super picky this year with a 9mo old baby back home... I'll just looking to mix in a little elk into the freezer and prob switch to smoke pole once I tag one with the rifle... So yep that means i have no problem tagging a good eating cow.

Really appreciate the advice and look forward to getting to know this site a bit more.
