I hunted in SE WA for the late draw buck tag (whitetail only) and after seeing a doe ratio of 20-1 I was really getting frusterated with the lack of rutting activity I was seeing and the poor deer quality. I saw this buck and never got a good look at him but it was either kill him or let him go. I know I could have killed a bigger deer possibly...what would you have done in my situation?

Are you kidding, if I were after a whitetail and saw that buck, I'd blast him too, and be proud of it! No questions asked! I've seen some very large whitetail from SE Washington, but never while out hunting, it was always from a Cat, or a combine.

"Roadless areas, in general, represent some of the best fish and wildlife habitat on public lands. The bad news is that there is nothing positive about a road where fish and wildlife habitat are concerned -- absolutely nothing." (B&C Professor, Jack Ward Thomas, Fair Chase, Fall 2005, p.10).

Fill your freezer full of meat, tack the skull plate with the antlers attached to the side of your barn, save the cape for the monster sheds you'll find next spring and be damned proud you live in a free country where your right to bear arms, provide for your family and protect yourself is not limited, mitigated or persecuted (too much anyway!;-)). Hell yes I would tag the buck. You ought to see what we have to choose from here in Central TX. There are very few big buck gene pools in the region so most are smaller than coues! Nice whitey!

BOOM! Hell, in AZ that would be a trophy these days. in Unit 10 three people had bucks, two spikes, one fork, and none of them srouted over 8 inches high.

That's a good buck, I would have taken him. Yeah you could've waited but then you also could have faced the would've, should've could've's? And none of us like facing those questions. He's not a bad buck, I think you should be happy with him.

Nice buck Fowl. I am sitting on the same tag (well one for the east side of the Blue's). I have seen about 15 legal bucks but nothing great. I hope to sneak out the next couple afternoons and then hit it hard Saturday. The bucks were pretty quiet last weekend so hopefully the rut will heat up this week.

Everytime I see a good buck, I have to remind myself. "This isn't last season and this may be the best buck I see this year."

I think you made the right decision. That buck should score around 120, which is not bad at all.

Well I tagged out this morning. 17" 5 x 5 that grosses 133. Best of about 20 legal bucks I saw. The boys were sure fired up today chasing does.
