I had a guy yesterday tell me to try rattling for mule deer next week on my muzzy hunt. I dont know if I should belive him, he ususally full of $#%@^> but I got to say it got my thoughts going wild. It is right dead center of the rut, and they could get courius, has anyone ever attemped to do this? any thoughts would be helpfull.
thanks 231

I have a friend that rattled up a buck during Colorado 3rd season this year. 150ish buck, 100 yard shot, clear out in the wide open sagebrush. But it was private land.

Couldnt hurt to try it at least once on a slow day?
What kind of animals have you been seeing on your scouting trips?
My dad told me about a buck one of his drivers shot down that way this year....32" wide 7x9 with 8" bases...scores either 209" or 219" he couldnt remember. He was way up high pushing through the deep snow.
You should hit the rut right at the peak or towards the tail end of it....since it started to cool down and rain/snow they have kicked it into full on rut the last couple of weeks.

One of the MuleyCrazy video's show them using whitetail rattling techniques on Mule deer and it worked. I think it is Muley Crazy 3

I haven't tried it yet but from what I've heard it works well when you have a buck you can see but can't close enough to. I've also heard you can't rattle as agressive as you would a whitey because muleys just aren't as agressive as whitetails are. I truly believe that if it worked well, you'd hear alot more about it. But I think I'll try it come Dec 16th, I'll try anything that MIGHT get me close enough to fling an arrow.

I've never had a chance to rattle muleys during a hunt, but a buddy and I do it on a regular basis during the rut while trying to get some close up video. If we see a good buck, but don't want to spook other animals in the area, we'll try rattling. 9 times out of 10 we get several curious bucks to walk in for a close up. We did it last week (Nov. 11th) on a huge 33" 6x6 buck and got him to come within 100 yards.
