Here is a picture of me and the spike my friend shot last week. The rancher wanted this buck taken out so he would not breed any does and pass on bed genes.

Do you think this buck would stay a spike forever or could he become a good buck. The spike is 23 3/4" wide and had 21" spikes.

That looks like at least a 3 1/2 year old buck, and Id say that he would probally pass those genes on to future generations. Thats not to say that all of his fawns would be spikes with browtines, as does contribute more to the gene pool that bucks. But yes, his antler configuration appears to be genetic. Congrats to your friend for such a unique buck!

I would have a hard time passing up a deer like that. Just for how different it is.

My dad was telling us a story one year of a deer they shot that had 20 inch spikes. When they were checked and it was aged the deer was 7 years old. He had no teeth left etc. He had never devolped beyond a spike

If it were a human he would be driving a lifted quad cab F350 diesel wearing a big hat!

Ya, he need to go. it will be interesting to see if any other big spikes start showing up in the next few years.
