Brothers 05 Montana Muley

My brother shot this buck in the eastern Montana badlands on Oct. 29. We got to our spot before daylight and were set up for a long day of spotting, but the weather was unseasonably warm and there just wasnt much deer movement. Never being guys with much patience, after a couple of hours we hiked to another spot a couple of miles away where we thought the deer might be holed up out of the heat. We found a good vantage point where three different draws came together and set up. Once again we gave it our best shot at staying put but a couple of hours of seeing nothing I was ready to call it quits. At this point it was 1p.m. and about 50 degrees out, and I knew for sure that we werent going to see anything. My brother was reluctant to go and we made a deal. We would head back to the truck, but on the way we had to go over one more hill and check the next draw. On the way up my bother was complaining to me about how we always "had to climb the steepest and tallest part of the draw." In mid complaint he says "theres a buck!" Those are about the sweetest words a hunter can hear. When my heart and stomach found their respective resting places, I took a knee and prepared to take the shot. I asked my brother if the deer was a shooter and he quickly whispered "yeah hes huge!". What you dont know is that Ive heard him say that about forkies in his excitement and buck fever. I took another look for myself, the buck was bedded on the side of a small bald hill at the point where two draws met. I knew he was a shooter for sure. One problem. Earlier I had zoomed my scope in at its highest power and now all I could see was dirt and hair, I had no shot. My brother is screaming at me to shoot, because the buck had gotten up, but was still not sure what was happening. I scream back at him, "You shoot!" He screams "Let me use your gun!" because he's not to sure of his new rifle. For some reason I scream at him "NO!" (I'll admit I dont recall any of this conversation) Finally I find the buck in my scope, and BOOM! I hear my brother take the shot. It's a good one, the deer goes down in a hurry. We covered the 200 some yards between us and the deer in a matter of seconds. The body on this buck was huge at least 200-250 pounds dressed out. Being terribly unequipped my brother had to take the back half while I took the front and after 3 hours of packing we finally got him in the truck. It was one of the best hunts I have been part of yet, and there couldnt have been a more deserving guy to get that buck. I couldnt ask for a better hunting partner or brother and I look forward to many more years of hunting memories.

Oh yeah- Sorry for the tongue in the last pic. In our excitement we forgot to take pictures in the field.

Not sure what he'd score (feel free to guess) but this is the best mass Ive seen on a muley from this area in a while.

Neat story! It sounds like two brothers. You have some great memories and a beautiful buck there. Thanks

Thanks for all the nice comments fellas, couldnt have done it without the pointers learned from this board. Someday maybe I'll have something wise to say on here.
