AZ Unit 24A Whitetail

First of Happy Holidays!

Do any of you hunters out there know some good area to hunt for whitetail in unit 24A?
My 14 year old son and 17 year old daughter have a tag for the December hunt which starts next week on 12/16. We do know how to hunt whitetail, we just aren't very familiar with this unit and due to work and school commitments we have not been able to do much scouting.

Any information on where I might start would be appreciated.

I would take the highway from Globe to the salt river canyon and take the last road before you get to the salt river canyon and near the san carlos reservation and white mountain reservation. I can't remember if you have to go just before or after where the reservation starts but I would hunt near the border of the reservations and in the big canyons that lead into the salt river. If I remember there is a campground on the left or west of the highway on top before you get to seneca lake and before you drop off into the canyon and the road keeps going past the little campground and will get you close or in the canyons that drop into the salt. That area in the big canyons that leads to the salt and is on the unit 23 border up to the reservation border is real good. Do a lot of glassing, hopefully you have a tripod for your binoculars, in those canyons and you should find some nice bucks. You might be able to access it from the roosevelt lake side but I'm not sure. The closer to December 31 you get the better the rut and more deer you should see.
