WA Multiple Season Permits!

It definitely takes a PHD to come up with something like this! So I don't make it sound any weirder, I'll post it just like it reads.

New for 2006! WDFW will offer permits for hunters to hunt deer or elk during more than one general season through a new speical permit drawing. Only one deer or elk may be harvested annually under a multiple season big game permit. The fee for these special tags is $150 for residents and $1500 for non-residents.

If you have any questions regarding this action, please contact Wildlife Management at (360) 902-2515.

This obviously raises somewhere in the neighborhood of about 100 questions, but I'm sure they got it all figured out ;-)? Seems kind of steep too? I could see where they'd come up with three times what one tag would cost (since you're hunting three seasons), but then again $150 is a nice round number!

I'm sure we'll be hearing more on this sometime the week before permit deadline!

And if you're putting in for spring bear this year you better do it via phone (866) 246-9453. We're moving to a new WILD system and anybody that's already transferred over won't be able to sell you a bear tag or Special Hunt Application. They suggest you just do it by phone to ensure your information doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

Happy Holidays!

So, is it a type of...
If we draw the tag, we pay the $150 for it, or is it if we pay $150 we get the tag?

Michael~All Gods creatures welcome... right next to the mashed potatoes and gravy.

Not sure if you pay upfront or after your successful in the drawing. I'm assuming after the draw you exchange your tag for a multiple season tag, but I suspect we'll get more clarification on this in a few months? There's lots of time, our application deadline is toward the end of summer!

"There's lots of time, our application deadline is toward the end of summer!"

Has the deadline been changed? Because this year it was June 19th which is actually a couple days before the first day of summer. I'd hate to see it any later than it already is.

I'm willing to bet that we pay 150 upfront, if we don't draw we would receive most of it back.

I like the idea for myself, but I fell bad for all the animals out there that are going to end up wounded because of the guys that will go bye a bow at walmart 1 week before there hunt and go out and shoot a dozen arrows and call it good. I know this doesnt apply to everyone but I quarantee it will happen. There should be some sort of competency test or something, or you should have to show proof that you have archery hunted in the past. Just my 2 cents worth. Hopefully Ill draw the license, that would be sweet.

I called the WDFW and asked if it would involve an application fee similar to putting in for a controlled hunt. They responded yes, and once selected you would have to pay the 150 dollars. I can't wait to see the odds on this drawing, I guess it can't be much worse than some of the rifle deer and elk permits. Good Luck,
WACAT

I think Washington should have a left over tag draw like Idaho. A lot of our tags get wasted and there is no way of getting them. I see lots of these tags going to waste because people that get drawn will have second thoughts about dropping the $150.

I heard it was going to be in the neighborhood of 1,000 permits, so...? Could be interesting.

$150$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, more money for the state, could open up some good hunting opportunities though........cha-ching for the state.
