Well the hunt is over , it started sat. morning , three hunters and the guides and six ESPN crew members . Four days and three bucks taken , two are upper 170-lower 180 class 4x4 . My friend Randy's deer was the last one taken , yesterday afternoon around 4:30 . Its a beautiful 4x4 about 22 in. wide and nearly 30 high , with some good mass . He was an older buck , but has alot a great character and will gross mid 180s' . The buck is beautiful , but more important was the experiance of this hunt . The guides of the Navajo Nation worked hard , the espn crew tried to do things right and the hunters did thier part , but what was MOST IMPRESSIVE was the way the guides reacted and felt as the hunters took the bucks . The Navajo are a very great Native clan , and these guys were a class of truely respectable men , very thankful to THE CREATER,as they refer in God . Randy gave his guides family the meat of his buck , and his guide was so thankful and extremely excited , in fact that was the first thing he told his wife about , the gift of meat , not all the other gifts or tips , but of the meat . This hunt put things back into perspective as they showed a great appreciation for the hunt and the harvest . They do try to get the hunters on the big bucks , but no matter the size of antler , they are very thankful , kinda puts an appreciation many of us have forgotten about and have lost site of the big picture getting caught up in scores , best guns and gadgets and other materialistic things .
Well anyhow , Randy made a great shot with his pre 64 .30/06 at 156 yards , they watched the buck for some time and Randy really liked the deer . They did see and get on a 200in. deer , but getting the cameras and the shot together couldn't happen , but the buck will still be seen on the show . This show will be aired in July , can't wait to see it , but will post Randys buck in a couple days...I wished I could transfer Randys feelings onto words for this post , his appreciation was a lesson I wished I could share.....Larry

Can't wait to see it!!! I applied to hunt on the Rez this year and did not get drawn, I have heard some great stories about those hunts. Hopefully next year, I am applying for the Archery Only hunts in Jan.

Ive applied for the last two years, the bad thing is there is no point accumaltion. Hopefully next year I will draw the archery tag.

My first ever successful mule deer hunt was on the Navajo Reservation , up at Washington Pass above Tohatchi NM . There was deer every where and it used to real affordable . Times have changed as for price , but quantity and quality has gotten better , its right there next to the Jicarilla when you talk great mule deer numbers with quality . ....NMHUNTNUTT

Larry, who guided for your buddy? There are some real nice guys/great hunters up there. Larry Dejolie or Jason Hogungawa? glad the hunt went that great......... Thanks, Allen Taylor......

Larry: I live in northern NM and word in town is that this was a free hunting trip for the ESPN crew. We have been trying to draw for the last three years but have not. How can I get a free tag for December? Who do i need to talk with tribal chairman or council?

Does anybody have any idea where I can get some info on this hunt? When to apply, cost of tags, when are the hunt dates, in Arizona or New Mexico? I grew up just off the res. in Arizona, it would be kind of cool to be able to hunt that area. Also what is the trophy potential, and deer density?
