Morning or Evening?

LAST EDITED ON Dec-17-05 AT 05:16PM (MST)[p]Hey just a quick question. In your opinion do deer and elk water in the morning or in the evening? In my mind evening would be the logical answer, especially if you are talking about late summer/ early fall. With the daytime temps still relatively high at that time of year I would think that a deer or elk would want to grab a drink before heading out to feed. After sitting in the hot sun or shade all day I would think that would be the most logical answer. But hey, I could be wrong. In your experience, when do they come to water? Morning, evening, throughout the day, at night, what are your thoughts?

My trail cam shows deer and elk watering at all hours of the day and the night. Most are at 7am and 8 pm. This is during the months of July and Aug.

When ever they are thirsty if they aren't pressured. I hunt all day and have killed many bucks in the early afternoon. It's tougher then morning and/or evening but that's what I'm there to do not sit around camp...

Thanks for the input guys. The question was more out of general curiosity than anything. I too have seen animals water throughout the day, especially in the morning and the evening, which goes without saying. Obviously that is when deer and elk are most active. I've never hunted over water as I prefer to spot and stalk or ambush, but if we have another dry year it might be an option, or a necessity. I have hunted with a treestand in the past but usually over a trail that leads from feeding to bedding or vice versa. But like I said it was more about curiosity than anything. Anyway, thanks again.
