LAST EDITED ON Dec-17-05 AT 10:06PM (MST)[p]I was out of town last weekend and I get back to multiple urgent messages to call back a buddy of mine... It turns out he was only able to hunt the second weekend of KS rifle season. After a slow day, on Saturday afternoon he nailed this gnarly buck with 24 scorable points, 27"+ on the longer beam, 7" bases, 25" wide nontyp. Eastern KS from the ground at 50 yards.

This is only his 3rd deer since he started hunting them a few years ago. The best part is, he's just a regular guy hunting on his own on a farm he had permission to hunt. He was just in the right place at the right time, and kept his head enough to close the deal when his time came, and I'm really happy for him.

I know a few of you can appreciate a big whitey once in a while on here, so heres the pic... He said his father-in-law scored it conservatively at over 200" and might net B&C. Needless to say, he is one happy dude. Sorry for the non-field pic, but thats all I got.

Great buck. Looks like the score sheet and tape sitting next to it. Congrats to your friend.

Thanks guys, I'll pass along the nice words...

Az- Yeah, that does look like a B & C scoring sheet and tape in the background... not that I have ever really NEEDED to have one. :)

Prism- I'll see if I can get any better pics. He was alone without a camera at the time and apparently didnt know he should immediately call in a photography crew after downing a buck like that, he was having a rough enough time dragging it to where he could get a truck to it... but if you're gonna have to look at pic of a head on a freezer, it might as well be one like that.

That's a super stud whitey. But I can't see any way he'll make B&C. Only a 4 point and too many deductions. But in all honesty, who cares? He's a brute in every way.

IT would be scored as a nontypical with a 4x4 main frame. The 4x4 main frame doesn't look to have to many deducts. Then add all that nontypical stuff and I could see it adding up to a pretty good score.

ICM- You're right... who really cares if it nets Booner or not. I thought the same thing myself, but I guess we'll see when the official numbers come back in... he does have a tiny typical 5th point on the left side though... not sure if it is an inch or not. I think the insane mass really makes his rack look stubbier than it is. 205"-215" was the gross range was what they kept coming up with after measuring and remeasuring the rack. I guess the proof will be in the pudding in a couple of months when they get it measured officially. No matter what, I'm sure he'll be content for a good long time knowing that he shot one what should be one of the higher grossing whitetail bucks taken in the entire state this year, in a state known for huge bucks. :)

...and for those of you who's only whitetail hunting experience is derived from watching too many OLN TV re-runs... you know the ones where the guys are hunting some micro-managed, pay-n-plug, deer hunters Disneyworld, passing over multiple nice bucks a day, where the trophy price list reads like the fine wine menu at a four star restaurant.... giant old Whitetail, like the one my very lucky buddy got, in the real world are extremely rare, and even more rare to get on the ground.
