SW Desert Late?

Just got a call from Utah Div. of Wildlife. Someone turned their tag in, and I'm the alternate; have to decide by tomorrow morning. Being a nonres. with only 7 points, I think the decision is pretty simple. I heard the area is thick, and I'm not likely going to get a chance to check it out. Also, I'm not sure if I can get the whole week off of work on short notice. What's the chance for success on a 330+ bull with 5 days to hunt? Any advice or comments on this hunt would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It holds some great bulls.... Very flat and thick Juniper trees with reseeds. I am sure if you know where to look, or get a ton of snow 330 should be doable.

Five days is alot of time if you use it right. I would take the tag if I only had 7 points invested. You maybe 7 more before you draw again.

Good luck.

COSA there are good bulls in the area with a little help you should be able to find a nice bull. The chance of drawing the tag anytime soon would be hard. If you want you can PM me and i will tell you some things i know about the area I'm not a guide but i also hunt the area and know lost of people who also hunt there too. Would love to help. Hope you shoot the big one either way. Love to see the do it your self hunter tag a big one!

TAKE THE TAG. I spent some time out there this year and on the hunt last year. Hunt hard and good things will happen. Still some great bulls out there right now. Rut started late so a lot of bull smade it through the hunt. Good Luck.

Take the tag. You would be stupid not to. I hunted the late management hunt two years ago and saw some awesome bulls. We killed two 5 points that went over 330 and saw a half a dozen bigger that we could not hunt. The unit is huge and there are tons of elk. The bull to cow ratio is way high. Take the tag!! Shoot me a pm and I'll give you more info.

I'm taking the tag. Looking at the odds, it would probabbly take me 7 more years to draw it. Now I've got to decide what to do concerning a CO deer tag I was really looking foward to. Hopefully I can do both. Going to look over some maps and I'll PM those that are willing to help.

Cancel colorado, get a refund, or donate the money and keep your points....

Put your time into getting to know your bull hunt, maximize your opportunity! what are the hunt dates?

When I hunted NV231 in 2005, there were a good number of bulls being pushed to Utah from NV.....we kept seeing them at night when heading back to camp.....that was early november thhough

Good luck

Mark
