Are these rifles really that popular with deer hunters across the country?
It sees that EVERY deer hunting show on TV shows a guy using one.
Are they really that popular or are they just spending a ton on advertising?
I've never really considered using one myself.

Theyare popular because they are a GREAT gun and are priced very affordable. My Omega shoots great and is a breeze to clean. I would hardly call it a primitive weapon though. More like a complicated modern firearm.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-19-05 AT 10:48AM (MST)[p]TC makes some good stuff.

I imagine you're talking about all of the Encores that everyone is shooting. My guess is that TC has given away hundreds of them over the last couple of years.

Pretty cheap effective advertising if it's a good product and the Encore is.

I don't have one (yet):)

Think it'd be a fun gun, but it's definitely not the centerfire rifle I'd be packing into the mountains for muleys. Now a whitetail out of treestand or the muzzleloader hunt and that's another story.

I really like the Omega as well, but think if I buy a new muzzleloader it will be the Encore.

The Encore is a great gun. The only problem is that it is a single shot. Takes a couple of seconds longer to get that second round ready. They dont have any other problems than that....if you consider that a problem. It also has an impressive selection of chamberings. And there are numerous after market companies that can get you anything you want. I have one with a few different barrels. I havent quite gotten up the desire to leave my trusty Remington home yet but one of these days I'll give ut a try.

The Thompson Encore is the best gun I ever bought. You can hunt everything that has four legs or flies with this gun. Once you buy the base gun/frame, the opportunities are endless with rifle/pistol calibers, shotgun barrels, and it makes a kick butt muzzleloader! All you do is buy the barrels and their are a lot of custom barrels/calibers out on the market, too.

I hunt deer and antelope here in Wyoming with it chambered in 25-06. It is very accurate being a single-shot rifle. I plan on getting a 7mm-08 pistol barrel to hunt antelope with it next year. It's a really fun gun.

Also, I originally bought it when I lived in SE Alaska. I would break it down, put it in my backpack, hike up to the alpine to hunt blacktails, and put it back together when I hit the timber line. Disassembles/reassembles in 5 min. Great gun for backpack hunting trips.

Are you sold yet?

no

LAST EDITED ON Dec-19-05 AT 09:05PM (MST)[p]I busted my Idaho buck last season with a contender (pistol) in the 30-30 caliber, just after I snapped this photo. A fun gun to shoot

For those of you that own one, are they short? I have long arms and most rifles are too short. They look extremely short to me. They look like a youth model on TV.

IMO the encore is a gimic... With the encore you can 'swap' barrles, and by the time you get the barrel you'd have just about been better off to buy another rifle and have something. ;)

Did I mention that they are ugly as sin too?

I like them too . I have a couple t/c muzzleloaders and the barrels are great ! I have a friend that has the encore and loves it , shoots real well . I think they look pretty cool , different strokes I guess....NMHUNTNUTT
