OK...Let's start the holiday debating. If money were no object where would you chase the mule deer of a lifetime (Sonora, Jicarilla, the Strip, etc.) How about on a budget of say $3,000 on a guided hunt? How about a do-it-yourself hunt. Let the debating begin...

To all members out there who celebrate Christmas - have a Blessed and Merry Christmas. For all those with other traditions have a very happy holiday season.

If you have the hook up on private ranches-Sonora

JICARILLA, hand down!! Southern Ute a close second. I have tagged along on a Jic hunt and its unbelieveable. They CONSISTENTLY harvest 200 inch muleys.

I'd love to be in Sonora don't get me wrong.... But until Colorado is surpassed in the B&C books by numbers of entries, I'll stick with it... (BTW- the rest have a long way to go to catch up)

-Real good question Upmuley.. If I had that kind of Money to spend, my top two would be either a ten day drop in the Salmon River Country , Idaho, or a similar hunt in Utah's Manti La Sal. I wouldn't do guided, it has it's perks, just like to do my own thing.

Utah, Book Cliffs. Washingtons, Entiat, late tag (Rifle or Bow). Idaho, unit 39

AZ Strip hands down. That would be my first choice if money were no option and if I could do a guided hunt. DIY I would go to Sonora because I know it well.

Utah: Paunsaguant, Henry Mts, Book Cliffs
Idaho: 45, 39
Colorado: 142

For private ranches/cwmu in Utah, I'd hunt Heatons, Deseret or Ensign Ranches

right here in Nevada, have had clients that hunted Sonora and come back to say the best hunts they been on is in Nevada so I side with them too

Seeing the amount of Monster bucks that come out of CO that one is hard to beat. If money was no object, I'd buy that Governer tag that everyone is raving about, and set up a highcountry muley hunt in which I could hunt side by side DIY with a few of CO's best, like DeerKing, Buckspy and OSOK. :)

Next to that, I'd just stick to hunting the messily 3 month season here in BC. :)

I'd say CO hands down. The more likely trophy mule deer hunt that I'll be doing will probably be near the Koot's in British Columbia on some steep, dark, Alder and Devil's Club infested mountain side one of these years. Or else I'll nail one at home in the Douglas fir littered hillsides of the Cariboo-Chilcotin region of BC next year...

If the guide limit is $3000 you can't do Sonora or the Strip anyway. I think it depends on how you like to hunt. If you love the high country Colo. If you like desert country Sonora or the Strip. If money is no object Ariz. governors tag hands down!

My first choice would be Canada. We can't hunt Sask, but it would be my #1 choice. Second would be the Peace River country of Alberta. After that, yep, a governor's tag would be the ticket. Either Arizona, Utah or Colorado.

$3000 won't get you into many top-notch muley hunts any more.

Maybe I'd be better off going to NZ with BeanMan and just hunting with the camera in North America.

Big bucks are where you find them. I've seen a couple 200+ in NM not know for monster bucks. Absolutely some areas have better genetics and hence better opportunities at those big ones.
If I had lots of $ then I'd buy the governor tag in AZ and hunt the strip, a close 2nd would be the Jicarilla here in NM. Not interested in heading out of country in Mexico or Canada.

Interesting-no mention of western Wyoming (G&H). I would be willing to bet more 200"+ bucks come from there than just about anywhere. Of course, that was before last winter...

Take a look at how many muley bucks are listed in B&C from Saskatchewan! Some of the highest scoring muley bucks in the country are harvested in Saskatchewan every year. There is probably a reason. From what I understand nonres are highly regulated and I'm not exactly sure about the regulations. If I was younger and a true mule deer freak I would consider moving there.
