I Wanna Complain!

LAST EDITED ON Dec-23-05 AT 01:52PM (MST)[p]Since we're all being so civil discussing landowner and conservation tag issues I'm gonna throw this out on the table.

Everybody is complaining about lost opportunity. Nonresidents draw too many tags in some states, residents draw too many tags in others, etc, etc....

And we're all getting the shaft when it comes to the ever growing price of hunting.

Well, as a Utah resident that can only apply for ONE regular species (deer, elk, antelope) per year, and one once in a lifetime species (moose, sheep, goat) per year. I want to complain!

You boys in other states (with the exception of Idaho) that can apply for everything you want to should thank your lucky starts.

I've been applying for elk in Utah for the past 11 years. Guess what, during that time I haven't been able to apply for deer or antelope-IN MY OWN FREAKING state. So guess how many points I have for them-NADDA!

By the time I do draw my elk tag and enter the draws for deer, I'm gonna be so far back that my limited entry elk may be a once in a lifetime hunt.

Atlease you'll have one once in a lifetime elk, deer, and antelope hunts-if not several of them!

And ontop of that if I ever do draw my moose in Utah which statistically I may not, there's a snowballs chance in "heck" that I'll draw a sheep or goat before I start pushing daisies!

So as a Utah resident that is watching all of the rich wealthy boys (must be from Colorado) come into Utah and buy up my Utahn born and raised elk, deer, antelope, and everything else we sell tags for. I say BAAAAH HUMMMM BUG!

Merry Christmas:)

You poor guy Paul!!! That post brought tears to my eyes. I'll give to your cause to get that Governors tag. LOL

I agree. It's a tough deal. Maybe we should move to Alberta and share a place. We could shoot a mule deer, whitetail, black bear, moose and elk every year. Plus you can shoot a sheep and griz every few eyars. Alberta looks like the place to be to me - if you're not in BC.

That does suck bro! But I'm not complaining about anything other than the job Arizona has done managing muleys south of the river!

Donnie

Mike,

I'd move to Colorado, but I have a better chance of drawing a deer tag as a nonresident than a resident-hahahahahaha:)

Yeah, Idaho sucks too, but at least everyone has a chance, and fairly decent odds! Took me a dozen years to draw a once in a lifetime tag, then I got Sheep, Mt. Goat, and Moose 3 years in a row. Now there's nothing to look forward to :)

Paul-I think you meant "buying" a tag as a non-resident not "drawing" one. ;-) Besides, you've become so famous that I'm sure you have to turn down free offers for hunting on a daily basis. Some of the tag brokers will probably give you one for free just to say "Paul Kendall uses Joe's Voucher Sales and so should you!" You probably can't even sit down for dinner at a resteraunt anymore with out some one walking up to you while you eat chips and salsa, wait for your burrito and say to you, "Aren't you Paul?"

C'mon Mike that was a little below the belt wouldn't you say.

I do love that Mexican food though-almost worth the ride over just for the specials..... Sure makes a for a rough hunt the next morning though ;)

I know what you mean. I finally drew a Limited Entry Any Weapon Elk tag this last fall after 11 straight years of applying. Lets see someone mentioned they are turning into once-in-a lifetime tags. I am 41. I now have to wait five years to apply again. If it takes me 11 more years again to draw---lets see that's 16 years---I'll be a spry 57 years old. I started putting in the first time when I was 30 and hypothetically won't draw again until I'm 57, and that's if I'm lucky. Sounds like once-in-a lifetime to me.

Damn, math makes me tired,

If I was going to hit you below the belt, it would have to be a kick. I can't bend over that far Frodo.

Merry Christmas Mike! With those long legs you'd have to kick 90% of us below the belt.

Luckily the greatness of a man isn't measured by the legnth of his legs.

Thats for sure because is it was, I'd be king of something by now. As it is, I'm just the big a-hole from Colorado trying to ruin all the fun.

Meanwhile back on the farm.........Drawing a tag in Utah is just a pipe dream for me. Sure I apply for both me and my wife but I just don't have any realistic expectations of ever drawing a tag. I guess I could go to a banquet, get in a bidding match and charge it. Mule deer on Mastercard and Bull elk on VISA please.

Paul,
I feel for ya man. Damn I've only had 4 LEH bull moose tags and 5 LEH mountain goat tags in the last 10 years. ;) I'll be thinkin' of ya while I chew on the measily morsals that I get to hunt here. Lets see, Muleys, Whiteys, Columbian Blacktails, Sitka Blacktails, Shiras moose, Canada moose, Rocky Mtn Bighorn, Cali bighorn, Stones, Dalls, Goats, Rocky Mtn elk, Roosevelt Elk, Mountain Caribou, Wolf, Cougar, Lynx, Bobcat, Wolverine, Black Bear, Grizzly, and Bison. ;)

Paul, I feel for ya, but we really don't have it any better here in Washington State. I have never been drawn for a lottery deer tag in too many years to count and Goat,Moose and Sheep tags here are once in a lifetime deals too in Wa.. Chances of getting a lottery elk tag too are crappy here for residents. When we finally do get drawn for a lottery deer tag, a lot of guys are getting nothing because their not seeing anything worth shooting when they finally get drawn.

Hey it could be worse, you could have spent your points 2 years ago on one of the primative hunts, hunted elk with smaller antlers, shot a measly 340 bull and had everyone ask "Couldn't you find anything better?" I am now onto my deer wait, 1 deer point going into this year....waahhoooo. At least maybe you can hunt elk in a non-drought year and film it for "Never Hunt Elk in Utah Again: Part 1 of 1".

Why Buckspy would give you the advice to move, with the chance of you ending up in Colorado....??? Boggles the mind that he would want a Utah tranplant in Colorado.

I've been trying to talk the wife into moving to Wyoming for years, but haven't had any luck so far. Say's she doesn't like Evanston-I have no idea why:)

I doubt I'll ever get her to leave Utah.

Oh well. The way I figure things I should have my elk tag within 5 years=35 years old

Hopefully I'll have a deer tag within 15 years after that=50 years old

I'll likely then put in for elk again and will probably die trying for that second tag.

Anybody dare quess what an elk tag will cost in 20 years???

Packout-The boys in Utah might want to move but they almost all marry and their wives still live under momma's skirt and the child support for 6 kids would keep them from being able to afford landowner vouchers. Idle threats at best to leave the Beehive state. Every single guy I know that moved here from Utah got divorced because the wife couldn't stand to be that far from the Promised Land and momma. BTW-The guys stayed.

Prism, don't feel bad. I have put in for and hunted a specific area for antelope where I live since 1988. From '88 through '92 I drew a tag each year. Since '93 till now I have only drawn two tags for this area. Not good odds for a resident. In all those years scouting this area year after year I have run into more than once the same out of state hunters who were more lucky than me in drawing this area. On those years I haven't drawn out I still like to roam the hills searching and if I see a big one I'll point those out of state hunters in his direction.
Cheer up man.

Har! HAR! You got it right-on BUCKSPY!

You can take the girl outa UTAH, but ya can't take the UTAH outa the GIRL!

Here in God's Country (that's MONTANA) and haven't heard the end o' the whinin' and pinin' fer momma and brudders and sisters and Macey's and gritch, gritch, gritch!

But boy---the deer, the elk , the yearly antelope tags and the pheasants (millions) and the seasons and choices go on forever, and ever....(Dances with Wolves theme music plays in the distance)

But I still only gon ONE lousy pref. point for UTAH deer! GAK!

I alternate between the elk and antelope every other year, have had luck with the antelope 2 times in the last 5 years but hoping that that elk tag will come this spring... wonder if I should apply with someone else to combine the points and see if that helps.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-24-05 AT 04:52PM (MST)[p]Prism,

I back you in your complaint here - no doubt that once I draw my LE Deer and start in the Elk pool it'll be 20 yrs till I draw that tag and who knows what our elk in UT will look like then!

Then I have to ask you the next question - how the hell do you hunt all the animals you hunt each year?? I watched all your kills on NE v.1 - and then seen your pics from this year - just wondering what a guy has to do to pull tags like you seem to!

Bottom line - I need to get educated by somone on how to hunt the number of animals/tags I see some of you all hunting each year. I put in for WY & CO every year and have had a good WYO hunt in the past few years. Just seem some guys have multiple deer tags, a couple of elk tags, and a speed goat/sheep/something else tag year after year! I need the skinny! (I know it takes some $$, and I'm willing to pony up there, but I'm thinking there is more to it!)

Buckspy, you are correct about the Beehive women. My wife won't move away from her family, the trade off is I can go hunt where ever I can afford it...Steve

B***h and moan, B***h and moan.

I'm with you Paul...11 years of getting the wonderful unsecessful letter. In the meantime the odds of drawing an LE deer tag have gotten just as bad as the elk...used to be 4 years and your could get just about any tag but the Paunsagaunt. Not now!

Have noticed the UDWR has found a way to really rub it in your face now. You can go to their website and they are kind enought to list each application and result. I got a big ass headache looking at all the $5 donations I have made over the years.

So, your only letting BUL_KRZY in on your secret now, huh. How about a little love. BTW, I know how it is trying to get those Heber girls to move to Wyoming...I can't seem to sell my wife on the idea either.
