Could you guys reccomend a good hunt in Alberta besides Bear Paw or Mikes? Just starting to look and want a very solid chance at at least a 170 class buck, and a shower at the end of the day.

Thanx

Jeff

Look up Jack Franklin at Lost Creek Outfitters. I just came back from a hunt up there the second week in Nov. It was absolutley amazing. It was almost too easy of a hunt. Huge bucks everywhere. I took a 172 inch muley and a 156 5X5 whitey. I took my muley on the first day. It had an in-line cheater and it was really tall but not real wide. Had a bit of ground shrinkage but I was really happy with it. I saw several bigger over the next few days but it was sure cool.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-01-06 AT 10:03AM (MST)[p]I thank Jack is out of the business right now. I hunted with him for 8 years. 187 was my best.

Mike do you know Kelly Wiebe that use to guide for him.

No, Don't know Kelly. He is definately NOT out of business. I hunted with him this November. He has two openings for 07 left. 06 is booked. He did sell about half of his tags to his brother because he is now guiding in Botswana as well as Canada. This was my first hunt with him.

Does he have an email/website? I did a search and came up with nothing. I've always wanted to do a combo hunt up there but haven't heard of many successful trips - sounds like you had a good trip - congratulations! I have always wanted to hunt Northern whitetail but it would take a chance at a muley to actually get me up there! Did you spot and stalk or sit in a blind all day? Also, was this rifle or archery? Thanks Ted

You might want to try Ameri-Cana or Diamond T outfitters I have hunted with both and they both have really good mule deer and whitetail.

I did and archery hunt with Jack this year. If you need his contact info e-mail me and I will be willing to give you his cell phone number. Jacks a great guy and he knows how to hunt those deer in Canada. I did not bring a big boy home, I passed up 6 bucks at under 20 yards. 2 of them in the 170s, I was looking for that elusive 200". I saw one buck that was over the 185 inch mark in 5 days of hunting. However the guy that hunted it before me stuck a 190+ buck and saw a 210+ buck. I could never turn him up.

Jack is very highly recommended by very well know mule deer hunters. That is how I got his name. You will not be disappointed with your hunt!

LAST EDITED ON Jan-03-06 AT 08:05AM (MST)[p]Yeah, they did get one 210 buck this year. A big, wide non typical. The guy who got it told them he would have rather shot a typical 4X4 after he tagged it. The guide was pretty upset about it. I think he was a rifle hunter. I saw the pic but did not see what weapon and I forgot what he said. I'm pretty sure it was rifle because he wasn't wearing in cammo in the photo.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-03-06 AT 08:15AM (MST)[p]Ted,

I stalked my muley three times before I got my shot at about 40 yards. For my whitey I sat in a tree stand for about 4 hours. Hated it. We then did a little hiking for two days. Got him hiking some canyons above the river bottoms. He jumped out of some brush and bolted like a cat. He stopped for a split second before crossing the next canyon at 326 yards. Drilled him and he ran around the corner. When I got to him another one, sligthly smaller, jumped out of some brush in that canyon.

This part of Alberta does not see really monster whiteys. The guide was absolutley in shock over my whitey. He said it would more likely then not be the biggest they take this year. They average about 130 on whiteys. I was pretty darn happy with it for my first white tail. I would have settled for a 120. Saw a bunch in the 120-130 range. They were all moving quite a bit, cruising for does. Hard to get shots when on the ground with them.

I'm trying to post the photos and story but not heaving luck with the phots yet.
