I am going to put in for a Montana Combo elk/deer again this year. I have two points saved. What are the approx. odds???

I see they give about 12K tags? Is that for non-residents?

Thanks for any help...

I can't believe you put in two years and didn't draw... Man it must be getting tough to pull a ta up there. Two years ago there was only like 13500 people put in.

Quit wasting your money buying points, it won't help you at all.
This same questions keeps coming up each year.
Enter the draw and hope for the best, it all boils down to the "luck of the draw" and NO points is going to help.

Keep buying the points as our state Fish & Game dept. likes it. We need all the money you guys give ;-)

I now know your opinion on MT point system, what about the points I'm buying in CO? Does that system work differently than MT? If so, how? Thanks.

How can the points not be worth it? If you have multiple chances in the same drawing, how can't your odds be increased?

It suprised me you have not been drawn with two points. We were drawn almost every year, but no more then every other before they went to the point system. We now get drawn every other year just like clock work. I do have some buddies who actually have drawn multiple years in a row, but they also normally get drawn every other year. I have not tried multiple years in a row with no points, but I buy the point because for us it means we will get drawn the next year.

Montana has "bonus" points which just gives you an extra bean in the pot.

Colorado has "preference" points for the deer and elk. The people with the most preference points always get drawn first.

In other words, in Montana some very lucky person could be drawn every year while in Colorado, if you have 100 tags and 500 applicants, the 100 people with the most preference points get drawn and someone with 0 points would have no chance of getting drawn.

Ah, understood... thanks for clear explanation. How much to the extra beans cost in MT? I heard CO started the "point bank" so if you don't need all your points you keep them, is this true yet?
Thanks.

$20.00 per species but if MT is like UT & WY, they might go up this year.

Colorado will allow "point banking" this year only (but that will be re-evaluated next year).

Point banking will allow you to draw a tag that takes less points than you have without making your points go to 0. For instance, in the past if you had 10 points and you draw a tag that only takes 5, you still go to 0 points after drawing. This year, you will draw the tag and still have 5 points after the drawing.

My guess it that this will make tags harder to draw for the next 2 years since people that decide to use this will draw this year and may put in for another tag next year that they can draw. It is anyone's guess though.
