Can anyone shed some personal knowledge on this unit. All I know is where it's located, 20 elk, 20 deer landowner and 2 general draw elk. I'm looking for info about the elk. How nice the bulls they kill are and do they let you hunt for a couple weeks.
I have 13 points to burn next year and wanted to do alittle homework on this CWMU.
Thanks for any info!

A friend of mine has drawn 2 cow tags there. I was lucky enogh to go along and help out. On those hunts he was given a weekend to get his elk. It was mid November. He could only take one other person along. There is good access if there is no snow. If there is snow you will need chains and a 4 X 4. No ATV's allowed.

On both hunts we saw a lots of elk although it took most of the day to find them. They don't let you scout in advance. The first year up there we ran into a herd of about 75 head. Several very nice bulls in the bunch. Second year up there we didn't run into a big herd but saw several nice bulls through out the day. The cows didn't show until last light. I think you could whack a 360ish bull in that area.

The area has some steep canyons but we didn't run into real nasty steep places.

Good luck and let us all know how you do.

Dave

I have a friend who hunted it with his Brother 4 years ago and had a great time and saw a ton of elk. His brother took a 320ish bull, the biggest they saw during the hunt. This friend had been putting in for Two Bear too and had accumulated 10 points. I talked him into trying his points on a Monroe archery tag, which he drew. After his Monroe hunt he thanked me for my suggestion because it turned out to be a much better experience than he thought he could ever get out of hunting Two Bear. His bull ended up scoring 332, but he missed two other bulls that were much bigger. If I had 13 points, there are many other units/hunts I would consider before a CWMU, but that's me.

With that many points why not put in for a good LE hunt? You have a good chance of drawing several units that are light years ahead of 2-Bear. PM me if you like I can recommend several good units.

from the research i have done i would definantly tell you to look elsewhere.especially with ten points. the operator of the two bear unit told me not to expect anything big he said a 330 was possible but not very common.save your points you have waited to long to burn them on a below average unit

Why would you want to burn 13 pts. on a CWMU?????
Realistically you could probably draw one of fifty percent of the units in the state!! Especially if you went with archery or muzzleloader!!!

Don't expect bulls over 330 or you'll be disappointed. LOTS of elk but not very big.

I have hunted 2-bear a lot. I have a 345ish bull on my wall that came from there. My dad is trying to fill his tag up there still. There are tons of elk, but the chance of a 360 plus bull are kinda slim. Although a 366 bull was taken this year. Now deer is a different story. Lots of big bucks come off there every year. In fact Kim told me they took a 230" buck this week.

Thanks for all the info! I guess if a guy wants a nice 300-330 class bull that would be a great place. I was told that there were some bigger bulls. Oh well.... Lets turn this post around alittle and with 13 points going into 2010 draw and having expectations on a 340 or better bull what is the unit that would be the best. I know everybody has there different opinions but just curious. I'm not a archery hunter either. Here is my top 10 break down.....
#1.West Desert muzzy or rut
#2.Wasatch muzzy or rut/Little red creek cwmu?????
#3.Munroe muzzy or late
#4.Dutton muzzy or late
#5.Boulder muzzy
#6.Paunsy ?????
#7.Anthro ?????
#8.Beaver muzzy or late
#9.Fish Lake???????
#10.La Sal Mtns??????
Now these are most likely the units that I have the best odds on. IMO. Am I way off SLAMDUNK????

I would go with any of your top 5 units or Beaver. No reason to do a CWMU unless you could draw Deseret. With 13 points you can draw and kill a heck of a bull! Good luck to ya!

NOT ALL CWMU'S TREAT YOU LIKE A PAYING CUSTOMER. ANOTHER GOOD CWMU IS REDD RANCHES. THE PUBLIC HUNTER KILLED A 398 BULL LAST WEEK AND I KILLED A 393 EARLIER. DAVE REDD'S HUNTERS HAD MANY ELK OVER 350 THIS YEAR. DAVID TREATS THE PUBLIC DRAW HUNTERS VERY WELL. LAST YEAR THE BIGGEST BULL WAS KILLED BY THE PUBLIC HUNTER ALSO.
DO LOTS OF RESEARCH WHEN LOOKING AT CWMU'S.

i would never hunt 2bear just based off the facts that they are total a-holes. i hunt and camp at whitney every year since as long as i can remember. for those of you that don't know this area, the main road going into whitney borders their property even goes thru it for about 2 miles. without fail every year beginning with the bowhunt their security people will hassle you if you are camped anywhere on the north side of the road. If you stop anywhere on the road to use your cell phone, glass any direction, stop to do your business, etc.......... they will question you what you are doing, even try to tell you you can't stop along the road at all or your can't glass their property. i even had one security guy come into my camp and tell me & my family/friends we were camped on their property and would have to move my camp immediately. needless to say i told him where he could go.... then pointed out the national forest boundary sign 80 yards past where they posted their cwmu sign. and i am not the only one that has been harassed by these people, we have talked to many hunters up their and they all say the same thing.

yes we have talked with the proper authorities about this issue and have been told they are looking into it and have had alot of complaints regarding the same issues i have brought up.

i understand patrolling your property to keep tresspassers out but don't treat innocent people like they have done something wrong.

sorry to vent but i thought you should know before you waste your points on this unit.

i wouldnt waste my time especialy my 13 points you might as well just buy a general season northern utah elk tag and hunt the uintahs. its a hard hunt. but i was luckt enough to take a 325 bull from uintahs and was told by many its one of the best bulls theyve ever seen come off the uintah mountains. they dont get as big due to heavy pressure hard winters and long migration

Muttman I'm not sure your whole story is true.

I do know they drive and patrol there property very hevely but wouldn't you if you were trying to keep the quility of animal up and pochers and tresspassers out?

I hunted the unit next to two bear last year and I personaly know someone who guides on two bear. Two bear does alot to try and keep the quility of animals up. It is something that is hard to do with the kind of operation that is run next to it. The only reason the CWMU next to two bear does so well is because of Two Bear. Two bear produces some great quility mule deer. The elk is something that they have been working on for some time and are starting to get better results. They have to deal with many factors and other then the property own next to them killing everything they find is pochers and tresspasseres. I don't blame them for asking what it is you are doing if you are on the road going through thier property. Now if you were really camping in an area that was BLM then they should have no right no aproch you. But knowing and having talking to people that work thier as well as the poeple that patrol there property I find it very unlikely that is what they did.

well my whole story is true. and i'm not saying all that work for them are that way, but i know what has happened to me and my family/friends, and that is what i have reported.

I've had the same problem even had them move signs up closer to the road because they didn't like how close we shot one to there property. Boundary shouldn't be changing from year to year should it?????
