Colorado Unit Advice

OK guys, I live in Tx. and haven't had much luck huntin' Colorado by myself in the past couple of years. I need some advice on a good unit to hunt. Preferrably in the south to south west part of the state. Tree huggin style hunting is OK but doesn't compare to huntin' out west. Any advise would help. And if someone could use a huntin' partner that would be even better.

What do you want to hunt?
How do you hunt?
What weapon?
How far from the road can you hike?

Sorry, I want to hunt a mule deer and probably a cow elk if possible (for the meat). It would be with a rifle and preferrably 2nd season. I can probably handle a 1 1/2 to 2 mile hike in. Thanks !

I lived in Pueblo for a year and had success in Unit 84. Tag was easy to come by and it didn't get hammered by hunters. Most hunters were there for bull elk. Lower elevation access is limited, but there's no need if you don't mind walking. Since I don't hunt there anymore I would be willing to give some detailed information about areas to check out. During 2nd season of 03' we saw 19 legal bucks within a half mile of roads. The deer hang up high until December. Nice area to hunt. Let me know if you want to hear some more about it. The tag for Unit 84 covers 4 units, so there's a lot of area to try to look over.

The Eastern Plains have some of the easiest tags to draw and some of the knarliest TF bucks. You may need to pound on some doors or go through an outfitter though.
