I'm looking at the Book Cliffs for deer this year for my wife ( she has 8 points) so she might draw. it looks like the north part is on the Res? can you hunt there? I'm not so dumb to think someone will tell me about thier best spot but for someone willing to work for it where would be the best area in the unit to try? and is access a problem? I've driven past to the north and south but I've never been in the unit. any help would be great, Thanks

You cannot hunt on the reservation and access is not a problem for the state land. I wish her all the luck in the draw, hopefully we will see you down there this fall.

Don't even think of hunting the res. They make their own rules. My concealed carry instructor even said that if you have a gun in your vehicle and are pulled over on the reservation, DON'T pull off the pavement of the federal highway. If you pull off into the dirt on the side of the road, he said he didn't know what would happen to you.

Just to be sure we're on the same page here, it looks like the Bitter Creek part of the unit is in the res? is this right or if you stay in the area marked as Bitter creek are you ok. It's not to clear, my state map shows the res all the way down to East Travaputs Plateau. if thats the case do you have to come in from the south? and what's the point in having a Bitter Creek part of the unit if you can't hunt there? I guess I need a better map, I never want to trespass anyway but I remember this doesn't look like a res to mess with. thanks

Next time you are in Vernal, go into the state building on Main and about 200 East. I cant remember which division it was (BLM maybe?), but we were able to go in and get some awesome maps of the area. They will show you very clear boundaries for the rez. And Id echo what others have said. . . dont go near them.

Just don't get caught if you do hunt the rez.. no seriously there is alot of land on the north side you can hunt with out even touching the rez. just fallow the maps you'll be alright and if you do get on the rez claim you looking for your half brothers with the name's of cutch, reed, riddley well you get the idea!! not that i have done that.. o.k. maybe once!!!!!

LOL! I think Ill add some advice to that post. If you are gonna pick one of those family names, dont pick the Riddleys! That will probably get you into more trouble than being on the rez.

Just stay to the eastern part of the state, nearer to the Colorado border. The roads are pretty clearly posted, you will know when you are on BLM land or BIA land. Bitter Creek is on the res. but if you stay to the east, you won't run out of room to hunt.
