Just double it Utah...

What the *FFFF* FREAK!?! I don't see how increasing the app fee will help them out. So fire some of those lazy buggers who don't do a dang thing all year long.

Might as well get used to it. Here in Idaho they are looking to implement the bonus point system and they think they can do it for a measly $3.50 an application. The application is already $6.50...that makes it a round $10.00....just to apply.

Definitely turning into a rich man's sport. I wonder how these game and fish departments did it for so long without pillaging and plundering the average Joe?

I dont think Utah gets any of the Application fee actually... doesnt it all go to the Fallon NV draw company?

And why do we contract this out to another state anyway? Why not have it local in state where the money spent stays in our own state and helps the local economy???

Dallan, im not sure about where the draw fee's go.. however, one of the reasons I believe the draws are contracted out is because Utah doesnt want to be accused of drawing fraud.

Its still worth it. Considering its $26.00 just to go fishing in Utah now, a $10 dollar app fee doesnt seem to bad for me. It does seem the money should be going to Utah and not out of state.

Idaho you pay $6.50 to put in for the draw then you pay $6.50 when you do draw the tag and then pay the cost of tag.
So if they charge added cost will we have to pay $20 to put in for draw and to pick it up and (for example elk tag) $30.75. For a total of $50.75????
Gonna get expensive if you have a family that hunts. It will cost me $120 just to put family in for the draws after this happens. Then another $120 to pick up tags. This is for elk deer and antelope. 2 adult combo's for $67 and 2youth for $35.Then throw in the 2 adult tags for each species. deer$61. Elk $94.50 Antelope $125. Then the bear tags for all $36.50. Grand total of $659 for my family to hunt. Thats not is including the gas food time off work. WOW. Never figured that out before.

I am about ready to move to Idaho or Wyoming. Not free, but still quite a bit cheaper than Utah. I am disapointed that all the increases are for residents, and none for non-residents. Utah is cheaper for non-residents than many neighbors. Also, in Utah residents pay more for tags compared to non-residents than any other state.

I noticed that on the complete list of proposed fee increases (http://www.wildlife.utah.gov/news/06-01/fees.pdf) there were some weird tags listed that I don't see in the proclamation. There is a high country buck hunt, and also a 2 year option for dedicated hunters. Does anybody know about these hunts? I am curious to know if there will be a high country buck hunt in 07. Thanks.

I know non-res fees went up last year in Utah, but so did resident. I was just playing with these new numbers, and in Utah residents will pay 17% of what non-residents pay for general deer and elk tags, and 26% of what non-residents pay for antelope tags.

Just for comparison, the res to non-res fee ratios for deer, elk, and antelope in UT and some other states are as follows;

UT 17%, 17%, 26%
CO 8%, 7%, 8%
WY 12%, 9%, 12%
MT 5%, 4%, 7%
ID 8%, 8%, 12%
NV 13%, 10%, 20%

I wish we could find a way to secure funding for game managment agencies that wasn't so dependent on the pockebooks of hunters.

Most Wildlife Agencies are termed as special fund agencies, meaning they get their funding from hunting and fishing license fees. There are exceptions, Colorado and Utah get some general fund $$. This worked fairly well until State Legislators establishehd unfunded mandates on Wildlife Agencies that started back in the 70's. They mandated the W/L Agencies the responsibility to manage programs for non-game, endangered species and the whole environmental review process without additional funding or personel. Thus, the hunter and fisherman have subsidized these programs for decades. One of my pet peves. If the public thinks these programs are beneficial then they should pay for them.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-07-06 AT 07:42PM (MST)[p]I could care less about the increase to $10.00. What I'd like to see them do away with is the ability to apply with a credit card. Do away with that and watch your odds go way up!

I would gladly pay 20$ for a application fee if it made enough money for the UT F&G to stop giving tags to ORGS like SFW who pimp them to the rich guys who will only be hunting in the future.

I think they should cut the number of tags in the northern unit. I think they treat this unit as their money maker because the herd was sure down this year, and the deer forecast said it would be better than last. I guess they just use that method to guarantee that they sell all of thier tags. Wich makes norther suck because theres so many stinkin people.
