Bull Caught in wire

I received the following email regarding a bull elk that was killed after it was caught in fence wire. I leave it up to you to the statement about a new Utah State record.

So here is the story I received in my email:

"Kerry (my brother in law) works with this guy who had a North Cache County muzzleloader permit, he had not been successful yet and had went home to shower and re-stock. Well on his way back to camp he runs up on these two guys in a strange predicament, they had this big Bull Elk all wound up in a barbwire fence and trying to get him out! Like how do you get a mad Bull Elk untangled from a 1/2 mile of barbwire? So he asked who owned the property and the older gentleman said he did and said if you have a tag, please help us.

The rest is history and this may be a new Utah State record Elk!

What would you do? Hell yeah!
There is no way to get close enough to get him out of the mess, your in the middle of nowhere (Randolph foot hills), by the time the Fish and Game got there he would have killed himself, it's within your hunting unit, you have the land owners permission, or if they did happen to get him kinda cut out he would have died with anything that was still attached.

All I can say is Wow."

end of story

I have some pictures of the elk in my photobucket account but forgot how to attach to this email. If someone wants to post them I will send them to you, I forgot how to post from photobucket account after resizing the pictures.

If all this is true, and it were me , I'd go ahead and take the elk. Not sure about having him scored for records though , but I guess it's pretty hard to actually say..Can't wait to see the pics...

Got the email of this bull the other day. Nice bull but i think the state muzzy record is over 400 not sure, as far as having him scored i think it will have to be done SCI even though it was a low fence. lol no really it must have 2 miles of fence in its horns!

go to the bottom of your photo in your photo bucket account. there will be about 4 choices. pick the last one and copy it directly into the area you typed your message in on MM.

Post the whole link and post it quick cause I want to see it before I go to bed.lol

Archery is a year round commitment!!

Exciting to hear the story about this bull and how it was taken, but where's the pics? I would love to see 'em. Post some if ya can! :)

yeah I received the same email and the hunter did the right thing, I've seen hung up bulls before, but none with that much barbed wire wrapped around. "i'd rather be lucky"

Dang nice bull, Great story, But not a state record,
Also, if he had a North Cache tag, and he killed it
in Randolf, that is the wrong Unit, Nice bull though!

If he wants to be the state record he'll have to beat Doug Degelbecks 412 7/8 net typical or Mitch Carter 416 6/8 non typical ML.

Its a dang nice bull but Im not sure I see 412 inches. Regardless a great bull and the hunter did the right think IMO.

>thats a real nice looking bull.
>How did he get so
>much wife on there?

"wife" on there eh? Sometimes the wife is like a 1/2 mile of barb wire in your antlers! Never thought of it like that, but very true! LOL! Sometimes I'd rather be shot and put out of my misery too! hehe!

Sweet story. I am just glad the guy was able to put it down. Who cares if it is the state record of not, I don't. I would hang that bull on my wall in a heart beat. Especially on the unit where it was taken. Good job hunter,

Dillon

My question is...
If you have a North Cache Bull tag, and you shot that bull in Randolf, isn't that out of your boundary? Why didnt the landowner call fish and game and let them put the bull down?
Either way, Great bull...

I would like to correct some glaring inaccuracies in the original E-mail sent to wildsage. I think I can do this, being as how I'm the one that actually killed the bull. I'm in the first and third pictures.

#1- I don't work with anyone named Kerry, so he obviously didn't hear the story from me.

#2- I did not have a North Cache tag, I did in fact have a Meadowville muzzle loader tag.

#3- I had not been home to either shower or restock. I had just come off the mountain with six other members of my hunting party and was on the way to another hunting spot.

#4- At no time did either myself, any member of my hunting party, or the landowner ever see the bull actually caught in a fence! The bull was actually fairly active until his front feet became tangled in the wire. We watched him jump a 5 strand barbed wirefence and run about a quarter mile before going down next to a stack yard.

#5- A half mile of fence is heck of alot of wire! He had maybe 10% of that.

#6- I did search for and find the landowner, who was gracious enough to allow me to kill the bull, doing both the elk and me a huge favor!

#7- The bull is at least 45 inches off the state record as is evidenced by the photos.

In closing just let me say that I am neither embarrassed nor ashamed of doing what needed done and would hope that anyone who calls themselves a hunter would have done the same, even had it been a lesser bull!

I apologize to "getelk09" for posting something that was untrue, in the future I will not post anything that is forwarded to me unless the owner has given me approval. Sorry getelk09 for the misinformation.

Get Elk,
Great looking bull, thanks for getting on here and clearing up what was stated in the email. I recieved it today as well. I was thinking that maybe you should type up your story and if you don't mind I will attach it to the email that I recieve and send it back to the one that sent it to me. That way maybe the correct email will go around instead of somthing that is completely wrong. Again Great looking bull.
