Would you punch your tag with this bull?

Seen this bull last weekend and got this video from about 1200 yards thru the spotting scope with my little camera.
Would you think I should tag this bull on the late hunt, or would you let him walk and look for something better.
His 5th's are weak but the rest of him looks pretty good.

What are your estimates on score? Not this it matters, just want to see what you all think...

I come up with 356. Given your track record on that unit, put him on your list of maybes but keep looking.

Hey Dale...I was thinking about along those same lines..350+ish...
My boy says to stay away...he will find better...and I have to believe he can do it...

He looks sick ribs and hips showing... shoot him, he wont make it through the winter.

>Looks to be about a 300
>inch bull to me.
LMAO...

Even with short 5ths he breaks 340, I'd put money on that..

I thought he looked kind of sickly too. He has a patch right on his rump where I thought I could see an arrow fletching at one time but I couldn't ever verify that. His hair is sticking up there so something has either hit him or he has a big sore there?

He's a nice elk that I would say is real close to 350. He definantly has something going on with his health. I say shoot him, you would be doing him a favor.

looks pretty perfect to me, very symmetrical! Awesome main beams, no broken points. I think he is beautiful!

Are we looking at the same elk? I still stand by my 300 first post. 1's, 2's, 3's, and 4's are average length. the 5th's are short. Average main beam length and width. I dont see it scoring much more than 300. If it had more mass and width I would say bigger, but still dont see it. The simplest way to settle this is, If you think the elk is big enough, shoot it, and tell us the score.

Those "average" beams appear to be around 55", and the fronts to the 4th's are above "average" as well. I think your looking at a 350 bull. If he lives long enough to take him (he don't look too healthy) I'd say he's definitely a contender!

G1 = 15
G2 = 18
G3 = 20
G4 = 22
G5 = 8
mass = 25
beam = 48
spread = 40

Total = 352

How's that for a guess :)

You gotta love those thirds curling up toward the royals!!!

Cheers,
Pete

It would be tough not to take him AR.

What was that mom use to say 'A bird in the Hand......' type deal.

Rick, I beleive your son. Your wife and daughter set the bar high. If you boys don't smoke a toad there will be alot of razzing around the campfire and dinner table from the ladies:)

Your probably right about the dark spot being an injury. The infamous "Chubby" has a dark gray spot this year.

Good Luck, It's getting close.

With all the problems I am having with my knee, I catch myself thinking I will shoot anything decent and easy...but then the backlash of what I will have to deal with over the rest of the years haunts me...lol...I already hear it about my 350+ archery bull, which was a toad for me, but 25 and 35 inches smaller than the wife and daughters. If I would have known I would ever have another elk permit, and on the Fishlake to boot, I wonder if I would have had them shoot the first bull they seen..HA.. Not! I am pretty tickled with their bulls and if I don't surpass them, I can deal with it. It will be a tough pill to swallow, but I am preparing just in case.
Either way, I'm going to just go out and enjoy hanging out with my boys and whoever else shows up!

if he don't look like he going to make it, PLEASE take him and put a end to his misery. Plus some-one has to have the smallest bull in the family it might be your turn LOL

"I have found if you go the extra mile it's Never crowded".

Rick, he looks fine to me, perhaps he's just an old goat, he looks nicely massed.

If you want to shoot him, I'll help pack him or any other bull out!1

You do the shootin', we'll do the scootin' my friend!

I saw a couple bulls like him last year on the muzzle hunt. Great until the fifths... I saw one bull that had good fifths to match that prob woulda gone 380. From what i saw last year i would shoot that bull. ATON of elk but not that many bulls over 340

I have a hard time seeing that bull go 350. I think a 40 inch spread is pushing it, I guess him closer to 36. I really don't think his 5th will go 8 and his fours look closer to 18 than 22.
I usually don't have a clue, but I put him closer to 330 than 350.

Than being said, I still think he is a good bull for a late hunt no matter what unit you are on. If you have not seen any better by the opener, I would take him and be stocked that I did.

342" gross, 336" net???? No way to even guess spread, my other guesses probably not more then 10" off each!! AR's bull in the video looks slightly bigger to me then this bull.

My first responce was to tell you that you should definately pass on the bull. But, then, I got to thinking about if I had the tag what would I do? He is not broken, I think he is pushing up close to 350 and for a late tag, that is about right. You aren't huntin in the rut like your wife and daughter did!

I would be scoutin like crazy the week before and maybe hold off for a day or two and then I'd be dumpin him for sure!

I know I didn't help your decision any, but I'd just like to be in your shoes to have the chance at a decision like that!

I'll be out a little bit before your hunt and if I see anything worthy, I'll give you a Holler!

Keep Lookin!

I know what my bull scores, but I will let a few more of you guess before I tell what he scores. Good guesses so far, lets hear a few more. Zach
