Kansas Mule Deer?

Kansas has a few muley tags that they give out each year. Is there public land to hunt in Kansas or will you be stuck trying to find (pay for) access? What about their whitetail tags, any public land to hunt or is access not a problem?

Thanks

I know that. I was just wondering if there is any public land to hunt or do you have to pay to get on private land.

No good public lands, as over 95% of Kansas is private. It is hard to find good access as most mule deer populations are scattered and low densities. They have been giving out a lot more mule deer tags the last few years, thus the quality has suffered. It will take you 8+ years to draw a muzzleloader tag, or you can buy one for $5,000+. Good Luck with which ever way you go.

Yes Kansas is mostly private land but there are some units with public lands. Also, you don't normally have to pay for access, just stop at the farm houses and ask for permission. Most landowners will allow you to hunt for nothing and I have even run into a few that would take you out and show you where to hunt, the only payment required was to sit and jaw with them awhile.

Kansas has walk-in-hunting areas. DOW pays landowners to allow
hunting. Usually crp, grassy/weedy draws, etc. Have seen some
nice taken off these lands. Usually they have lots of bird hunting also.

If you have farmers that will still let you hunt for free, enjoy it while it lasts.Kansas is getting locked up real fast...The Walk-In properties get pounded by every non-res and local. In fact, locals
try to hit them first thing. Before they hunt there own.
