Well Jan. is half way over any body have any more news on The Idaho situation? last i herd they were meeting this month.

It's a done deal and will begin in 2007. The Idaho F&G still have to work out the details, but there will be some sort of bonus point system.

As a nonresident that has to buy a hunting license every year just to apply, I say it's about time!

I wouldn't like to see a true preference point system like Colorado, as I think everyone should have a "chance" of drawing every year.

Hey maybe now we can go after Utah, Colorado so I can have a chance to hunt a cwmu or ranching for wildlife. Which last time I checked was on a draw and precludes nonresidents. The sportsman tag would be nice for any species as well. Ahhhh the Alton Ranch has my name on it sooon!!!! It took me 15 years to draw best muley tag in Idaho, You can draw a tag every year here if you would forgo putting in for trophy units, Undersubscribed either sex units fill in for waiting period. After Utah, Arizona, Oregon, and Wyoming combined have yielded one tag on a preference, or bonus point system, over the last decade or so I am sad to see my home state follow along with others.

I have mixed emotions being from out of state. I've put in the last 7 years paid $100 plus for a hunting license for what???
The waiting period if you drew a tag should of been at least 3 years. Russ

I think that this sucks!!! they should of left it the way it was last true draw around. the only thing that will be good is the perks if you dont draw but once you do, 3-5 years is a long wait. so its both good and bad i guess

It would suck if they get to a system where you can just buy a point. I'm not completely opposed to a system like Nevada's where you just get another point for each unsuccessful year and then square the amount of points you have, but to go to an all out preference point system, or to make it where people can just buy points, that would suck! I wish they would have left it how it was, but I guess we had to join the majority sometime. Now that it's officially going to happen, I'm curious to see what tyupe of system they come up with.

Odds are going to go way down because everyone is going to jump in. Before there were points, people avoided Idaho because if they didn't draw they didn't get anything for the license they bought. With points, more people will get in and viw it as an "investment". Same money going to ID each year but different rationalization when the check is written. JMO

So, anyone know what species this will be for???

I also like Nevada's system. I think it's likely the most fair of all of the systems.

I believe the system will be for all species of game and I also believe they'll cost us a pretty penny. Idaho is already one of the most expensive states to apply for w/o getting some sort of point. I can only imagine what it will cost now!

That being said, I'm still glad they're doing it. I've easily spent over $1000 the last few years just applying for Idaho and have nothing to show for it.

Let's hope they do not go to a preference point system that gives 100% of the tags to the max point holders like Colorado.

The species they have been talking about implementing the new system for is deer/elk/antelope/moose. Maybe things have changed over the last couple months, but from what I understand, mtn. goat and sheep were not going to be included in the new system. Another question I would have if this is the case would be are they still going to keep applying for moose vs deer/elk/antelope seperate, or since there is a point system for all, will they let you apply for all 4 in the same year??

Jaxon

Why not include sheep and mt goat? I'm curios to hear the reasoning. Are they afraid the system might look like WY in 10 years?

I liked the old system.
I have applied each of the last 3 years and have not drawn.
Still, I think the system was beyond retardation.
Now every 'special interest' will apply for special consideration, Most points wins, purchasing xtra points, landowner preferance etc.
In my world, fair is fair. Let us all place our name in the hat (on equal ground)and let the luckiest person win.

Its interesting to listen to everyones definition of "fair". To me, its NOT "fair" when a person who has drawn a trophy hunt in the last 5 years has the same chance to draw the tag again as someone who has NEVER had the tag.

I don't know if I am completely sold on the bonus point thing or not. I do think it addresses some of the issues regarding folks hunting trophy areas multiple time before someone else has a chance.

Its also pretty funny to hear about you folks who have "bought a license to apply with nothing to show" LOL Do you think that the only place there are bucks and bulls in Idaho are in the limited entry units?

With that license you bought to apply for a controlled hunt you could have purchased over the counter tags for either sex deer/elk (archery) then bulls and bucks (any weapon) either sex antelope (archery)and follow it up with a cow elk muzz hunt.

Sounds like it was your choice to get "nothing" for buying a license. Now I would agree with the statement if we were talking about Nevada.

Fellas,

Below, please find the contact information for the person in charge of presenting the views of this to the commissioners.

From Mr. Brad Compton himself:

"Please feel free to contact me at the phone number listed below to discuss our controlled hunt drawing system.

Back to my opinion:
Now that it's a done deal, I am proposing some system which ensures any applicant a "chance" to draw in any given year. One suggestion is to offer 20% of the tags for any hunt to applications on a 1:1 basis. This means that any applicant has 1 chance to draw in any given year just the same as every other applicant (for the 20% of tags). The remaining 80% of tags are distributed (still by random draw), but where the applicants' amount of bonus points are squared giving some increased chance of odds to draw. I encourage everyone who give a hoot to contact him and express your opinion. To say we don't want it is not realistic now. But, we have the chance to mold the system to be most reasonable system possible. Mr. Brad Compton is the contact to give your thoughts to.

I also believe that this may increase the amount of "interest" in Idaho's big game drawing since all of those who didn't partake in the past will want to "get in on the ground level of this". This could further dilute the previous odds seen for limited entry controlled hunts.

Times, they are a changin'.

Thanks Monte for posting that info. I will be putting in my 2 cents.

I still don't understand the logic of bonus points for all species except for Sheep and Goat.
