Well I finally get to post a picture of my own bull. I have drooled over many bulls that have been posted on MM's and looked forward to the day I could show some pics of my own.
I only had 1 point as a non resident for Utah so I spent a lot of time looking into units with better draw odds and decided to put in for the Oak Creek late rifle hunt. I didnt expect to draw but was excited when I seen a hit on my credit card last spring for an elk tag. I realized after talking to many people familiar with the area and the elk there that it was going to be a very difficult hunt. I even had a fellow tell me to shoot the first branch antlered bull I seen
I wish I could say I spent every spare second up scouting and looking for elk but I was fortunate enough to meet a really big elk nut from Nephi who spent a lot of his own time looking for bulls and sending me pics and updates of the bulls he was seeing. Thanks a bunch Skylar! Also a big thanks to a few folks on here who gave me some valuable information. You guys know who you and thank you again.
Well the hunt finally arrived and we were up early on the mountain glassing in an area Skylar had been seeing quite a few elk and some good bulls. Right away we glassed up this bull and after a closer look through the spotting scope I knew he would exceed my expectations so off we went. My Dad stayed back and kept an eye on him as we took off to get in position. It took a good 30-40 minutes to get close enough for a shot as we had to pick our way through some other elk we hadnt seen before. Finally we got to 411 yards and that was about as close as we were gonna get as the other elk we had bumped were taking him up and over the top. I calmed down enough to put him on the ground and thats when the excitement really kicked in. I am glad I was able to share the experience with Skylar and Kip from Nephi and my good friend Jason. My Dad was able to watch everything through the spotting scope. Here are a few of the many pics we took.
