Howdy, once again I need advice from the experts. I am going down to NMSU in the fall and want to put in for a decent archery deer hunt this year, relativly close to las cruces. I am not looking for big deer, just a chance at shooting something with my bow this year, these where a couple of my top picks to put in for, what do y'all think, having never done much hunting in southern new mexico I am kinda clueless.

Howdy JH, I am not very familiar with units 23 or 37. I have had a few friends hunt unit 34 and spend most of the summer up there working there is a lot of public land in a variety of differant habitats from PJ up to MX conifer there are by no means a lot of deer but you would have a reasonable chance at a good deer especialy in January. Not much experiance in 36 but pretty simular with the exception that there are some remote areas and the tree cover is generally more open. What are you going to major in? I am curently working on a masters there.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-04-06 AT 10:54AM (MST)[p]The Burro mts in unit 23 for archery deer is realy good.
my wife drew a rifle nov18 mule deer tag for the burros ,seen lots of realy nice bucks. She ended up harvesting a real nice five by four. They have a late season archery hunt in the burros
for mule deer and whitetail and is considered a quality hunt.
