Well January is coming in fast and it will be time to put in for Wyoming elk again. My hunts this year are over and I may be nuts but I am already planning ahead. I know I am not putting in for a region with max points, screwed that up this year with my deer points. Lesson learned. Just need to figure out what area??? Anyone else looking ahead??

I started thinking ahead when I got my unsuccessful letter last spring. I took all the limited entry elk info of the Utah wildlife page, and made myself a spread sheet with bonus points, tags, and everything else I wanted to know. Now I have to think over the truth, but most likely I will join the dedicated hunters this year, put in for a rifle elk tag somewhere like beaver or boulder (I want the Pahvant but we all know that is a long ways out there I have 8 points). Then I will put in for mountain goats with six points, and get my seventh one next spring I bet. To tell the truth I doubt I get anything worth getting, except maybe a southern region general buck. I got a 20 inch 4x4 down there in an hour this year with my bow.

Started planning about 2 months ago. Only been once before, 09. Going to try a drop camp in Unit 71 of Colorado this time.
Talked with a number of references and it sounds like a good quality outfitter.
Will continue my 15 months of getting in better shape for this one. Just cant prepare for the altitude change coming from Florida.
Tried to get some info about Circle K Outfitters on this site but no replies.
Thinking and planning is half the fun. Good luck to all.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-21-09 AT 03:46PM (MST)[p]I'll be using my 15 points on a San Juan Archery hunt unless I draw the sportsmans tag or a expo tag :)

Cheers,
Pete
