156K for Utah Gov Tag

If memory serves me correctly the 156 thousand paid for this years gubernator tag is nearly twice as much ever paid for a Utah deer tag. What do you think? If a guy pays that much he or she must of heard about a super buck? Maybe a 225 typical or a 300 non-typical? Any guesses? IF I had the dinero, I think I would buy the AZ or CO tag.

Must have been shown some video footage of a monster to fork out that kind of cash!!!

Yeah, I would think they must have a buck or two in mind to shell out cash like that. They'd just be crazy fools otherwise. That kind of money could buy a lot of great hunts (I'd personally be booking sheep hunts everywhere with that kind of money to burn), so I can't imagine anyone throwing down just on a unit's reputation/history.

I noticed that the Gov Tag holders in Colorado had a little tougher time this year than they thought would be the case and Colorado's tags dropped way down in net proceeds for the 2006 auction. Guess the legions of wannabe's trying to cash in on the well-publicized finder's fee didn't locate any smoker's to keep the bidding up this year...

I don't think so, these guys are basically donating the cash to help wildlife. Hell, two years ago the guy didn't even shoot a buck. Sure they have seen good bucks, but I think they would donate the money anyway.
BTW, didn't the AZ tag go for $15k this year? I'm sure that if this guy only cared about trophy size he could have picked up that tag instead.
I, for one, am excited to see so much $$ going to wildlife causes because I sure as heck won't be able to give them jack.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-09-06 AT 07:11AM (MST)[p]The Az tag went for $ 142,500.00. And I beleive the Utah tag went for much higher, Like $185,000.00.

"David Meyer, an eye doctor from Memphis, Tenn., beat two other hunters with a bid of $156,000 last week to win the auction for Utah's 2006 statewide deer conservation permit."

Its all there in black and white.. Looks like the same guy who bought it last year is coming back.

The Doctor was not even in the house. Moss from Mossback had him on via cell phone. Rumor is there was a buck already on video.

Donation? More like tax write off and a chance at a monster buck that was shown to them on video! Don't get me wrong, I know that a bulk of the money goes to the wildlife but there are more reasons these guys fork out cash like that. Not just for a donation!

It was a fantastic night. The tags went crazy and for a good reason, these guys want to help donate. There were 3 guys bidding on Utah until $130,000 and then one fell out, and it sold for $156,000 to Doc Meyer.

Special thanks to the other 2 bidders who helped raise all that money for wildlife. Also Doc did not do this for the tax break, he simply loves hunting deer in Utah and was glad to help.

And no there is no buck tied up to a tree waiting for this year, Doc will be looking over the whole state.

any other questions concerning this let me know.

What does the tag holder generally pay for an outfitter or guide to harvest the giant mulie that they show him on video? If they are willing to pay 156k for the tag do they pay the outfitter their regular fee or do they jack the fee up?
