Just curious, does anyone know if this area area has good public ground to hunt on? Was wanting to take my son in an area we could find a decent buck for him. Last year was his first year to apply and he has one point. Thanks in advance.

I have never hunted there, but from what I know and have heard, it gets hammered. Lots of hunters - everywhere. But it's good country and there are deer. I'd go to another area with less pressure if you have a choice. But I'm sure folks from Colorado could provide better advice.

I hunt Colorado, but have avoided units 3 and 4 for the reasons mentioned.

Good hunting, especially with your son.

Lots of hunters for sure but lots of deer... everywhere. I hunted there about 3 years ago and hunted just northwest of Maybell. There are some private low lands around there but there is BLM land close to it with some rolling hills covered in sage that the deer would hang out in. They would head for the private fields to feed early and late. The trick is getting to your spot early so you could catch them as they left the hilly area into the fields to feed and then back again. It was kinda' like whitetail deer hunting here in Texas except without the blind. I would go back but that drive from Dallas is a killer. Send me an email or PM and I'll give you some better descriptions of the area I'm talking about.
