I live in Ely,NV and was wondering if anybody is planning on putting in for this area for mule deer and if you are i would be more than glad to help you in your conquest for a truly monster buck.

Hey,
nice of you to offer. I have 4 pts in Nevada and have contemplated those units or the late muzzleloader in 115. What's your thoughts on choosing between them. I probably can't go this fall as my wife is very pregnant with twins (hallelujah, Jesus!) so I'm looking to 2007. Again, thanks for the help offer.

The Christian

Archery and Muzzleloader are your best choices for 111-113 or the 111 Late Rifle (Very Hard to Get). Area 114-115 is a great area with a lot of great deer. Hey Congrats on the twins and if you draw you know who to ask for.

Yeah it would be wise that if you are offering services to take people hunting to obtain a guide license and abide by the rules set forth in the guides regulations! You never know who might be out there watching you, and illegal guiding means guiding without a license whether you are taking money or not, it is a gross misdemeanor! Just wanted to give you some heads up on that.

so if a friend from Nevada, help you find a deer it illegal and he's breaking the law, I could see him breaking the law "IF he's getting paid, but if he's just helping a family memeber or friend. So all the people who come out to Nevada to hunt with friends are breaking the law(well the locals are) don't sound right.I'm not saying it not the law if just don't sound right.

Mmmmm... not exactly.

Notice paragraph 2, the words "for compensation".

"NRS 504.390 Licensing; records; regulations...

1. As used in this section, unless the context requires otherwise, ?guide? means to assist another person in hunting wild mammals or wild birds and fishing and includes the transporting of another person or his equipment to hunting and fishing locations within a general hunting and fishing area whether or not the guide determines the destination or course of travel.

2. Every person who provides guide service for compensation or provides guide service as an incidental service to customers of any commercial enterprise, whether a direct fee is charged for the guide service or not, must obtain a master guide license..."

As long as a person is not being compensated in ANY way or guiding a customer of some other "commercial enterprise" a guides license is nt required. I know guides have a lot of heartburn over guys accompanying other people hunting because it may be money out of their pocket but as long as the person receives NOTHING for it but satisfaction, it is not illegal. If it were I couldn't even take my own family member or friend hunting and I know neither NDOW nor the legislature has an appetite for opening that can of worms.

Can someone tell me the odds of drawing a guided tag for rifle deer in units 114-115 with 4 non-resident points? And if I was to draw would you wait until the end of October to hunt or hunt the first part of the rifle hunt?
Thanks for any info.
The Bird.

COSA,
Would that be guided draw odds?I have been told my odds will be alot better to draw one of the guided draw tags. This drawing is held earlier than the general draw.If you dont draw in the guided draw you can apply again this will give 2 chances to draw in one year.
Does anyone know when they will be posting the 2005 odds and if it will show the guided draw odds also?
Thanks

LAST EDITED ON Feb-12-06 AT 03:12PM (MST)[p]The 2004 guided hunt draw had 19 first choice applicants for six tags. The sheet I'm looking at did not have a breakdown by the points for the guided draw. One thing you have to remember is that these odds can be somewhat misleading since they only are dealing with "first choice". In the Nevada system, they go through each applicant's full 5 choices before moving to the next applicant.

Thanks,
I did not know that,I thought I might be getting some decent odds going in on the guided draw but wont count on hunting anytime soon the way it looks.I have only been putting in for 2 different units for the regular draws looks like I had better start putting all 5 down?
I will have to see what the 2005 odds looked like I guess?
Again Thanks,
The Bird

Warbirdum,
I hope I'm not misleading you. If 114-115 is your fist choice, the odds listed are accurate. I'd guess you would have around a 50/50 shot if you put in for both draws. You may even consider putting that late hunt in that general area as your first choice and go from there. It won't effect your chances at drawing your later choices.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-12-06 AT 05:18PM (MST)[p]50/50 Now that makes me feel alot better.I will put in for the late also in that general area if I cant draw the guided draw. Thanks alot for the info.I hope Nevada will post the odds from 2005 soon.

COSA YOU HAVE A PM.

I just want to help anyone with questions or anyone who doesn't even know what the area is like or were the deer maybe so my offer is still on the table.

Well, I didn't want to join MM because of all the politics, but I must say that if Elkguide is right then I am going to owe alot of fines because I don't know how many people I have told and showed where I was seeing deer and had them go hunt it.I guess you have to have a license for being human.Elkguide, I don't see anything wrong with somebody helping the next guy out if he is not getting paid for it. If so, then I should be able to retire right now.It scares me to think that somebody might be out there watching me help a friend treasure a great hunting experience and then give me a misdemeanor for not having a license.I would like to think that I have friends right here on MM that I could to that with.If not, then everybody posting on this site should be given a misdemeanor.

I agree. I've helped out several and recieved valuble help from people on this site. I'm more than willing to help someone when they draw a tag that I've had or don't have much of a chance at. Now when it comes to general areas or easy to draw units, I think the information pipeline gets much more restricted.

I know were elkguide is comin from, with a couple of good friends of mine are guides but can we get back to what we do best and talk about those big ol' muleys.

That is how I see it.If no cash is exchanged it is pefectly legal to help a buddy or anyone for that matter, that is your right. Now if money comes into play get permitted and get your land use permits where you will be guiding to be legal.Dont even let the hunter that you are helping purchase your lunch that is considered illegal if they wanted to get ugly about it.And if you film be careful not to sale any footage of the hunt without a land use permit, they can get you for that also I have been told.Once money gets involved it changes the whole picture.

Your right HuntNevada.Let's talk about hunting.I told myself when I joined that I didn't want to get into the political part of it and I have already did that.I am done with that.I wish I didn't.I put in for that late rifle hunt 2 years ago.My dad had the muzzle elk hunt the year before and I seen some of the biggest bucks I have ever seen, but I have drew out the area close to my house the last couple of years and seen some good bucks. My brother had a rifle elk tag this year and I got a nice buck on film over there.I am kind of curius about that late muzzy hunt.Havent looked at the odds, but it's gotta be better than that late rifle hunt.Did you here of any good bucks taken on that muzzy hunt?

nvguy2...i was told by a friend that late muzzleloader hunt was great and that he had seen many 28-30" bucks so. And the odds i believe are a lot better but that 111 Late Rifle is hard to beat i seen a 5x3 that would go 29-30" wide. But your right it is hard to get. In my opinion it is the hardest in the state to get.

HuntNevada-How is the early archery hunt.My dad is thinking of putting in for that.He is tired of hunting the late hunts.I have drawn late hunts in my area the last 2 years and I have to put in late at least 1 more time.We have talked about hunting deer in that area since my dad drew elk there in 03'.Is that area any good during the archery hunt?

They Arcery Hunt for 111 is good because the big deer are out and they don't have any pressure because nobody hunts the high peaks and for 114-115 there is some hogs and there is very little hunting pressure because of the lack of tags given out.

I posted this on the elk forum before I saw this so I'll post it here also.
There's nothing wrong with helping other hunters out and as long as no compensation is given there is no crime commited. I'm willing to share my knoweldge with anyone who asks and there's nothing wrong or illegal with that. But when someone comes on a public forum offering thier services that in my opinion is similar to advertizing. There are a lot of wannabes in Nevada doing just that. Acting as a guide and skirting the law by saying they're just helping out a fellow hunter. They usually receive some sort of compensation or gratuity which is ILLEGAL. If you want to be a guide do it the way the rest of us have done legally.
Wes

Wes we have already been down that road and if you think that there is wannabes in Nevada don't hunt here. I was just offering my information to those guys who were putting in for this area with out knowing all the information there is. I don't want anything to do with guiding and guides. I would want the some information about an area if i didn't know about it....wouldn't you.

HuntNevada,

Thanks for a good post. Too bad the ethical police are always trying to exert themselves. I'm an outfitter in Wyoming and I help quite a few folks, too. I'm licensed, but don't take any compensation, so maybe I'll get complained at for something else. I'll shoot you a pm about the hunt. Thanks.
