anyone know anything about the area? i hunted east of Sheridan a couple of years ago on some private land that borders some public land. saw lots of deer and shot decent 4x4. i hope to get drawn for montana again this year, but figured i need to have a Plan B just in case. The season doesn't seem very long in region C. 2 weeks long. do you think it will make much differce hunting the first week versus the last week?

Access is will be your main problem on the ranchlands. I tried for 2 years and only had 2 people willing to let me hunt. I couldn't justify their cost of trespass fee. So I'm looking elsewhere. If you don't mind hunting the mountains I've heard it's pretty fair hunting in the Bighorns. I'm going it alone and don't feel comfortable in the mountains without a buddy along in case of emergency. They have alot of walk-in areas but I'm not sure about the crowds. PM if you like.

Rifleman,

We had the same experiance as MadMike. Although we did well it was a very tough hunt, meaning we spent more time looking for access and follow up than we did hunting. We will go else where this year as the tresspass fees are getting steep. Good luck.

I have archery hunted that region for the last couple years and it seems like the early I go the better it is. I dont know what the difference would be from september archery to october rifle though.
