I haven't posted on MM much but have been reading alot of the past posts for awhile.
I am currently in college in at the University of Wyoming and was looking at applying for a Colorado deer tag, area 6 (Archery) for an Auguest hunt before school starts and was wondering if anyone has hunted the area before and what I could expect. I am still a college students so I don't have alot of money to spend on an out of state tag if the area dosen't give me a opprotunity to harvest a mature deer. Just wondering if anyone had any insight that they would care to share?

Tyler,

Funny, I work for UW and here we are discussing Colorado. We hunt both sides of the state line in that country. I can't recommend it as an archery area, and it seems like it has gone downhill in general the past few years. Archery hunting it would be really tough because the deer are mostly in the clear cuts in summer and they bed in the thick timber. Very tough country to spot and stalk and you can't pattern them much at all either. I'd suggest you look at another area. Shoot me a pm if you want some help.

I just got out of school and moved to denver and was looking at that unit as well. I have been hearing about the same report for that area. Seems like everyone I talk to says the numbers are down and its a tuff hunt. I am still planning on scouting that area this summer just because it looks like a cool area. If interested let me know

I can't decide if the unit 6 1st season rifle tag would be worth while or just alot of hard work with little chance for a good buck. If I draw either tag I will let you know Tom and maybe we can meet up for some scouting this summer.
