How would it be to be able to chase monsters around like they did in the old days.

CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT RIG HEADED DOWN I-15 AT QUITTING TIME NOW DAYS???

THE ONLY bobcat!!!

That's just how things were done back then. I'm sure that none of the deer were wasted and that there were plenty to shoot the next year.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-22-06 AT 12:14PM (MST)[p]Cool pic! Without knowing the conditions why even speculate on whether the deer would spoil? Back then as we all know, hunting was a completely different ball game and was for subsistence; adding speculation (which I know happens a lot on this site) just destroys the whole intent of sharing the picture (or post) in the first place. Take it (the picture) for what it is.

Sorry for the rant, I guess I'm just getting tired of there always being someone raining on someone else's parade.

Great pic!
Man to have been on that hunt!
Couple of nice ones in there too!

LAST EDITED ON Feb-22-06 AT 01:01PM (MST)[p]manny,

Are you serious? Do you want us (hunters) to just bend over backwards to the Anti's? There's nothing wrong with this picture. And I would bet money that these bucks were just thrown in the back of the truck just long enough to take this picture. And it is stupid to just speculate and say "oh I bet the deer on the bottom spoiled" Most old timers cared just as much for the meat as they did for the antlers maybe more.

Yes I agree that we (hunters) have to watch our image we place on society but come on you did nothing but assume the worst from this picture.I don't know about the rest of the people here on MM but I'm not gonna bend over backwards for the anti's.I'm still gonna share my photo's with friends and talk about hunting even if it's on the internet.

You said you didn't want to turn this thread into an argument.I think you should have thought about what you were typing before you hi the "post reply" button.

I have rarely got into an argument here on MM,but you kinda railroaded this thread by whining about the picture.

I see about half the responses are missing. Good for whoever nuked them!

If you get to looking close, there are some really nice bucks there. That's a truck load of deer!

This picture was taken by my grandpa in I think 1962. I have the original picture. And for all of you patrolers in here, not a single deer was wasted. Back then deer hunting was totally different than it is now. He said that the hunting party could have cared less if they were big or small, as long as they had horns and that they would fill the freezer. It just so happened that some of those bucks in that truck are bigger than any on my wall! All of these bucks were from opening day on Fairveiw. How would it have been to see that? Not even to have a gun, but even the video camera? Pretty awsome!

Great picture and thanks for sharing the story. Looks like it shoud be a great advertisement for the tires on that pickup. The must have put 50psi in the to carry that load!

Mountain_Monarch,

Thanks for sharing your pic. That is awesome to see....now I know why I cant kill anything big down in Fairview..43 years later. At least I'll use that as my excuse!! :) :). All kidding aside, that is a great picture and thanks for taking the time to share it with the rest of us....that truly would be a sight to see on opening day anywhere.....

That picture reminds me......back in the early 70's I belonged to a "hunting club" on a private ranch here in Cali. We paid $200 a year and were allowed two bucks per year.(blacktails) There were 15 members. One opening day we killed 22 bucks. The meat shed was full that day! It never even occured to me to take pictures back then. I had no idea back then that I would be a MM.com junkie! LOL

You do have to admit it is not the most asthetically pleasing pic - the way the deer are just thrown in does make it look a bit gregarious. I could certainly see where someone could make an anti-hunting, wasteful etc. etc. argument. HOWEVER - Maybe we should look at it like this - if this were a tuna boat (truck does kinda look like one) overfilling with an abundandt catch of fish, then everyone (mostly - except for the vegans) would just say "Wow" and be done with it. For some reason, people are more willing to accept that we hunt and kill fish in mass quantities than they are that we hunt and kill deer, elk, and other big game for the same reasons: FOR FOOD. To me there isn't really a difference but how often to you see PETA protesting against the big fish companies? Not too often - you see they really don't care where it comes from as long as they have their gourmet dinner they are OK. Now for the vegans - what would they say if that were a truck full of taters? One word - the same thing I say when I see it stacked full of deer. YUM!

When I was a kid my Uncle came back from a hunt on the Jicarillo with his buddies and a pick-up load of big bucks. It must have been 40 years ago. I thought it was awesome. Your post brought back memories of days and an Uncle long gone. Thanks. My Dad didn't get to go. Couldn't afford the $50 tag to kill two deer.
