I am a non resident and have 4 bonus points for Mule deer in Oregon. My father and I are trying to pick a unit that we can hike into and hunt hard and have a chance at a nice buck. I am not asking anybody to draw me a map, just looking for a place to start. I have no problem doing all the leg work. I just thought I would see if anybody had a particular unit that I might want to take a close look at.We love to hunt and enjoy the outdoors as well as the preperation of the hunt, I have a unit in mind but I want to spend my points wisely. My father is getting up there and I want to enjoy as many hunts with him as I can and also return the favor and help him get a nice buck for once.

Also I have hunted Nevada and Idaho for deer and Oregon for Elk. So if I can help anyone please feel free to ask me, If I can help you I will.

Thank You

LAST EDITED ON Feb-22-06 AT 09:03PM (MST)[p]There are some good areas but with 4 points you are still a couple of years out from drawing a real good tag. Send me a message will give you some ideas on where to apply for.

Oregon has a preference system like the one Wyoming has, 75% to the most points 25% random draw not a bonus system. My advice is keep building points and hope something improves down the road. Oregon mule deer hunting sucks so bad it's unreal, even private land dosen't guarantee a good hunt anymore. if you want a nice camping trip there are some units that you can have a good time and not to many hunters.

Send me a PM and I might be able to help you out some. These guys are right for the most part--even the best units are not very good anymore--but there are still some fair possibilities.

The best units will take more points than you have, but you still have a shot at something decent in many others.

Slide,
I sent you a PM with some info - I hope its helpful. Like everyone already told you - we used to have some good mule deer hunting, still kill some decent bucks each year but you don't find many good units anymore.
