Well guys. Since this is the forum where I hang out the most I figured I'd give you guys an update from my "Deer Hunt" this last fall (That and nobody has commented on it in the Bear forum). For some of you that know, I was able to shoot a bear opening morning of deer season. Well I finally got the rug back and nearly $900 is looks GREAT! As a rug he goes 6'3" from nose to tail, his skull went 18 7/8" B&C and we "estimated" him at around or slightly under 400 lbs. Here's some pictures...

Sweet bear - beautiful rug. I remember the pics from the fall. It was a good "deer" hunt alright!

HunterHarry - did you use your boy as bait for that thing? - Let him fish for salmon on a bear river and wait in the bushes for a big one to come along? I bet he probably would have done it for you - pretty soon and you'll have to take him up there for his own! His expression is saying "Yeah my dad's bear is good - but wait till I get mine!" You started a brush fire with that one! He'll have to sell a lot of night crawlers and mow a lot of lawns to pay for his tag! You must be doing something right!

MichaelJ....I remember the story and pictures well! $900 spent of your own hard earned money. It will make you appriciate that fine trophy for many years to come. Money well spent in my opinion. Congratulations again!

Does bear meat go good with mashed potatoes and gravy?:)

mj.....i, too, remember your 'hunt'...thank you for the update...as stated above, you will remember this 'forever'. very nice looking rug. if i remember right, wasn't your father sort of a 'non-hunter'? and he 'got the bug', too? thank you, again...keep'em comin'....

Very nice bear rug. I have always wanted to get a nice bear to have a rug made, I just can't believe what they cost. Why is that anyway? I mean an elk shoulder mount is about 500-600 bucks and I would think there is more time and work that would go into that than a bear rug. Anyone know?

i didn't try to steal your thunder kid.
I didn't have anythig near that good mounted at your age.
Good job!
That money you spent on the rug might hurt now, but the memories will stay with you forever.
Thanks for sharing!

mounted is a loaded word....so is stuffed!!!!
So I will just say nice rug ......(hey I said that before too!)
COOL BEAR!

Michael,
Congrats once again on a great bear. Sure wish I was taking bears that big when I was your age. I sure put a lot of dinks on the ground before I ever broke that 6 foot mark.

Thanks for all the compliments guys! I sure like it! And deffinately money well spent.

HH, I was just joking as I'm sure you know. Just thought I'd throw a little sarcasm into the mix.

LittleFoot, yeah ur right. My Dad sure enjoyed hunting this year. It was nice to put three animals on the ground this year unlike the last 4 years of straight tag soup!

Thanks again guys.

MJ,
That thing is beautiful. I saw a couple of blackies this past season and I may have to change my plans for next after seeing the rug. I would be interested in knowing who did the rug for you. Thanks.

The guys name is Mike Casper and he's outta Walla Walla. GREAT turnaround time and QUALITY work! $145 per linear foot finished was the price.

Michael....the rug is perfect man! Those big ol' bucks will come with time, a 6'+ Blackie is a great accomplishment. That would make a great back drop for your Prom picture! :) Congrats again!

Great job man! That turned out very cool! I hope one of these days I can pull a dang bear tag and whack me one half that size! :)

Thanks for sharing the pictures.

I remember the story . Congrats MJ , your bear looks real good . Thats some funy stuff Roy , lol....NM

You guys rock! Seriously, it's nice to come on here and view everybody elses stories/opinions, and it's finally nice to bring something of my own to the table.

PB, oh ya, '06 is deffinately my year for a Muley. Even though I would've traded my bear and my cow elk for a Big Muley! I got lucky this year, and I sure hope it continues on into next year. You still wanting a partner for that late whitetail archery hunt?

RR, it'd be pretty friggen awesome if you shot a bear next year. No one would deserve it more. You and PB sure helped me out this last season, and hopefully I'll be able to repay it sometime.

Roy, thanks but no thanks. It's deffinately money well spent, and I plan to pass this rug onto my kids someday.

MJ, your rug turned out awesome. That was a nice bear. It's kind of like a new car, every time you walk by it you have to stop and look at it. I'd be willing to bet that pretty soon you will be stareing at a big ole muley up there next to it. Good job, your an impressive young man.

IronHead, thanks for the compliments it means a lot. The funny thing is, is that I we didn't have any room in our house to put the rug. So it went up to my Brother in Law's 4 miles up the road. But I hang out there a lot as he has quite a big shop, and we like to go up there and watch movies, play X-box, sit in the shop and talk...etc It's a good time.
