I am trying to help my uncle who really is not computer literate so I thought I would post this for him. Him and his son have 4 points this year for mule deer in Colorado. They want to burn them up on a decent hunt for rifle season or muzzleloader, but prefer rifle. Does anybody have any suggestions on a unit or outfitter? They like camping themselves but are open to anything and have hunted alot for elk in the past. Obviously everybody wants the biggest deer they can get but they are realistic and understand that thats not always the case. If you can help or give any info I would appreciate it. Once they burn these up then I can start points again with them for deer elsewhere.

Thanks, Erik

long time no see!
I would look at some of the "new" hunt codes for some of the 4th rifle seasons in areas that take 3 or 4 points to draw. Last year CDOW moved the 4th rifle season back a week (mid november)and gave a break between 3rd and 4th (in prior years the seasons were back to back). This year there has been a couple units added for 4th rifle buck tags, look into the other units as well that have 4th rifle buck tags in that 4 preference point area. My belief is that a chance at a good buck or better is great in the later hunts. Last season I hunted west of Vail during 2nd rifle season, it was a bit rough to say the least. Things didnt work out very well and on top of it I didnt even see a doe. Now that area during 4th rifle may be a different story and I think it takes 3 or 4 points to draw.

Hey Jeff, its been a while. I have been trying to get out there the last two years but I had a baby this year and that changes things. Does it say what units take how many points to get it? I know I can go through the draw results from lsat year and see, but is there an easier way?

Thanks again,

Erik

FWIW
The March/April issue of Colorado Outdoors will have a insert with the preference points needed by residents and non-residents to draw all the different tags for the 2005 seasons. Most of the time its not to bad of a magazine on whats happening in Co. as well.

Get your hands on the March edition of the Huntin' Fool.

I am in the same boat (almost) a buddy and me are consdering burning our 3 points on a Muley hunt this fall. We are both from Alaska and our little Sitka deer are somewhat lacking in Horns (but we can shoot four a year.)
