Here's my situation: I plan to elk hunt 3rd season and had planned to buy an OTC license. I plan to apply for deer and elk preference points. Now, with the $25 Pref PT fee, if you buy a license this year (or had last year) you do not have to pay the $25. If I buy the OTC license when I am there in Nov, I must pay the $25 now. Does anyone know that when buying online, can I apply for the Pref pts and buy the OTC license online and not have to pay the $25? Not sure if I explained that correctly. Thanks.

I debated the same question. I just went ahead and bought preference points because I'm not sure this year if I'll draw my deer unit with the points banking.

You should be able to just put a preference point as your first choice and a OTC tag as another option of the online licensing process. This should mean that they will just send you an OTC tag and you won't be out the $25 per species. However, you have to pay for the tag now, so they get your money from now until next fall.

apply for preference pt 1st choice then if you are sure you are going to get an otc tag then mark it down as your choice as a type of refund and they will send it to you . this should save you the $25 fee.
