I drew a gen elk tag and will be hunting in elk area #21 which is also area #82 for deer, Because it is a cwd area and any deer can be taken I put in for the deer draw figuring I can probably get some freezer venison while elk hunting. Anybody have any advice in this area, not honey holes because I already know where I'll be hunting just opinions on the area, thank's , Bill

Deer area 82 is in the new region - W. It's great country and I'm thinking the draw odds will not be that good. Game and Fish is trying to reduce the hunting pressure on 82 and 100 so they set it apart from region D. There are some big deer there and as usual, they are in the roughest country farthest from the roads. Or on some of the private lands. Deer and elk seasons don't overlap, so if you draw, you'll need to come early to chase a deer. Some of the deer also hang along the Colorado state line, just above the Three Forks Ranch. The brush there is thick and it's tough hunting.

This area is a lot like G and H in western Wyoming. Great habitat and could be super hunting. But it has been mismanaged for years and the result is that there are not many good bucks. I wish Game and Fish would restrict resident as well as nonresident deer hunting in this area (and I'm a Wyoming resident). It could be great in a few years with a trophy management mindset.

ICM, thank's for the info, according to my regs both season's start Oct 15th, elk and deer. We will be hunting on the fenceline of 3 fork's ranch, my partner used to own that property,My thinking is that because it's a CWD area and one of the few that allow's any deer that they want to reduce the herd to help with the CWD. We will be bowhunting for elk starting mid sept and then if we don't score I'm coming back with my rifle in Oct, thank's again, Bill

USA, From what I know. Unit 82 draw unit for Oct 15th is a limited quota. It has about a 2% chance of drawing. A region W tag can hunt unit 82. It opens Oct 1st and likly will end the 14th. Don't know much about the unit. Good luck.
