The new proposal says they are going to give some Rut Buck Tags in the Manashtash,Taneum and Naneum units. There should be some really great bucks avaliable. They havn't been hunted in November since the 70's??? I used to see some really big boys show up when we hunted the modern Elk season and it ran into mid November. What do you guys think??? I had written 2 letters recently requesting this to happen....They must have gotton enough in put on the recent surveys to take a closer look.....

There were late permits in those areas in the early 90's, I think its a great idea, gives a guy more options to put in for, it might actually increase the odds a little of drawing one of those tags, spreads the wealth a little more.

I agree with RR it should help spread some applications out this year. There are some big old deer in those units.

I agree. I may draw a hunt this year with 6 points. It does make the decision on what hunts to put in for even more difficult. I spend the majority of my time in those three units and have seen some very nice bucks. It seems that the WDFW are taking our suggestions and actually doing something with them. Nice Change!!!

I know of some nice bucks taken from the Manastash in the late 80's from rut draws. My brother was drawn for the eburg side of naneum in early 90's for a rut hunt but it had been hammered a few to many yrs and there weren't as many bucks to be found...the yrs previous it had been great. so Both units by now should be good areas to draw.

Lemondog,
Maybe see you there!! I am pretty excited about the possibilities that this hunt may hold. Some late fall scouting was very fruitful and I recall having this same conversation with you on the mountain. Glad to hear that you wrote a couple of letters. We are never sure if they are truly heeded, but maybe they were this time.

Yes, it is nice to see. I would bet that not too many other than yourself have been nosing around up there after the elk season closes. I would think a few big boys would come on down from the back country by Mid November. When I was In my 20s (back in the 70s) I would always see at least 2 180+ bucks from Buck Meadows on down to the fence in a season. Someone will surley take a real bruiser out of there!

If the proposals hold true, (they usually do)there are a lot more opportunities for a late hunt for mule deer. With 8 or 9 (I can't remember for sure) bonus points I am pretty excited.
