If your sick and tired of all the 'spin' our boy Tony is dumping on all us redneck M&M members..... here is a link to Cancel your MDF membership until he is removed from his position with MDF.

[email protected]

If your not a member a simple E-mail to tell them why you won't be a member is an option.

So with all the 'spin' about Tony being best buddies with the Antelope Island staff and promoting his little radio show with them on ................ is this 'Pre-Spin' for allowing his $156,000.00 Gov. Muley tag bidder to actually HUNT Antelope Island??

Wow, you really got a bone to pick with Tony. Why would the GOV tag holder want to kill a dink on the Island when he could whack a 40" or a great non typical elsewhere? This winter has been way toooooo loooong.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-16-06 AT 07:48AM (MST)[p]Everybody think deeply about this. These are topics we are all very passionate about. I do believe that many organizations appear to become selfish and more self serving as they become bigger. They loose sight of the big picture and why many hunters supported them in the first place. And then throw the human traits of emotion and egos into the mix and wow,,,,, in politics where the vote is your say in the matter, with organizations your membership is your vote. Is money the answer to having more deer and more quality hunting? Maybe yes, maybe not, but yes only if properly used for achieving the goal and shouldn't an organizatins' leaders be accountable to a majority of the membership? And change usually comes from the hard work of members within an organization. Some things to consider.

I was just thinking of joining the MDF mainly because of Tony
TONY KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

Why don't we all cancel our Seventeen Magazine subscriptions too. How many years is Jr. High in UT? Let's make a big deal out of something so small. Why don't we all go on a strike until this is resolved. Stop putting in for hunts and going to banquets ect... What's next?

Hey buddy,

Lets cut Tony some slack, hes a straight shooter on and off the mountain. I actually joined because of him, I would like to take a minute and personally thank Tony Abbot for all of his hard work and dedication to Mule Deer over the past year. Thanks Tony keep up the good work.

If a little group of anti hunters decided that they wanted to ban squirrel hunting in AZ from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on the third Tuesday in October every anti hunting group and member in the country would give them their support. But hunters will burn eachother at the stake if someone picked up an antler before they had a chance?

Divide and conquer...still the best option for winning the battle and the anti's are winning.

DON'T GIVE UP ON MDF! I think MDF is doing some good stuff. MDF should not be punished by anyone for what someone did.

MDF volunteers work hard to make a difference, it you give up on MDF you are giving up on the volunteers too.

If you find any orgainzation that does as much good and the MDF and the RMEF for their respective species, and everyone connected to that organization never does anything that pisses anyone off, and espeically that ALL the members agrees with each and every decision made, PLEASE let me know. I want to join.

Sounds like a bum deal for us that this shed hunting thing happened, but I plan on continuing to support the MDF.

Gotta agree with Brian, MDF is is still fighting the good fight.I think what was done by Tony should reflect on Tony not the entire org. it was here long before he was. I gotta say I am dissapointed in his actions when you are in his position you have to tread lightly.

Man I freaked out on this post and the Fieasco post too . I actaully like the MDF , as Tony won't hesitate to actually speak to a guy , share some thoughts and just visit . I have never tried getting ahold of any RMEF directors , so I can't say how hard that would be , but Tony responded to me the first time I ever inquired about the MDF . I just sent my $$ to Muley Crazy , I also understand Ryan is pretty friendly and he has a passion for mule deer as a whole , not just to kill em and pound his chest as if he is the only one to do it . Sorry to hear what happened up at the Island , but nothing illegal was done and so I can only hope it will be handled better in the future , but don't drop support for the MDF ...Larry

You have to be careful with this one bud, it is clear that Mr. Abbott is only human, the only thing that has to be called into check is his character, for allowing his influential position to create special treatment, not his capability to lead, so on the other hand people are fed up with those with money getting the pick of the litter with public property.

If I was in Mr. Abbott's shoes, I'd admit falling into a trap, and watch my step next time, too many people around here with a lynch rope in their hands, you don't want to make the real goal of the MDF to suffer by people pulling their money out, that's not the answer.

Don?t jump the gun on this one, I know the squeaky wheel get the oil, but take a deep breath and let the oxygen hit the brain cells?.now Think!? don't be an Absolom here

And it's a donedeal?

THE MDF HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS AS A WHOLE SO JUST LEAVE THEM OUT OF THIS, DONT BE QUICK TO PASS JUDGEMENT ON THE ORGANIZATION, ALL OF US MEMBERS WERE NOT OUT THERE PICKIN UP SHEDS SO DROP IT. AND AS FAR AS TONY AND RYAN GO WHO CARES IF THEY GOT TO GO IN AND PICK UP A FEW ANTLERS BEFORE EVERYONE ELSE, IT STARTED OUT AS A GOOD THING AND THEN SO MANY OF YOU TURNED IT INTO SOMETHING THAT IT NEVER WAS, SO DROP THAT SUBJECT TO.

What I am wondering is why people go to an island to shed hunt multiple times a year when it gets hit by "early" sheddin and the boat loads of people that pay to shed hunt, do the deer shed twice a year!?! Sounds like a waste of time to shed hunt unless you see the monster buck drop and make a mad dash to the antler(s)...
Funny, My prediction was on in the other thread..Jeff

I'am not a UTARD but, I'd bet not all of the bucks have finished casting their headgear. Probably a high percentage but not all of them. Anyone out there know if some were still packing?

Blaming all of MDF is not the way to go.
I am sure 99.9% of the members had no clue this was going on and that is why it (is a big deal).
It will either get fixed or I am sure a new foundation will be made by the majority..... However, I hope MDF can continue and actually get stronger after learning this huge lesson.

Best,
Jerry

Jeeze guys, it's just horn. There's always next year.

Jeeze guys, it's just horn. There's always next year.
Sorry MJ

The issue really has nothing to do with horn it's about ethics and leadership. In his position he needs to watch his step. He has given the MDF a black eye with his latest actions, otherwise there wouldn't be 100 posts questioning his actions.

Let his actions reflect on him not the entire organization. It would be a shame to come this far and throw in the towel because of one persons irresponsibility.

Now let's not just go and cancel all of our MDF memberships. It's a good organization and Tony generally does a great job. Hell that is one of the only groups working for us out there. Here is what I think all of the guys want from Tony:

1. An admittance that this was probably not right (even if we would have done it or whatever)
2. Take responsibility man for a bad decision
3. Next time try to keep it a little bit more fair.

This whole post shows how weak to hunting community is. You get pissed at one person so you want to take it out on the thousands of mule deer and other animals that benefit from the work MDF does.

Some of you complain about conservation tags and only rich guys get to hunt and all that other crap. On the fiasco post people are bitching they had to spend $10.00 and a tank of gas to hunt for sheds. It sounds like if it was not for all the rich guys the mule deer would be in real trouble.

This is all supposedly stemmed from the privileged (Joe $) getting more then the average Joe, right ? isn't that's what really on some poeples minds?

Answer this for me, Do you think these gov, tags ect; would be as appealing to Joe $, if he had to conduct his hunting along the same guidelines as the general population, with such restriction as season dates, unit area, I mean, no more August to January seasons, no more any weapon and any unit, I'm thinking that would be a big NO!

Just like being the big shot in an organization, you get perks no doubt, but is it ethical ?

Time?s must change, and we, Joe hunters need to be parting with more of our money for the powers that be to take us seriously, when we say no more discrimination but equal opportunity for all, if we're not willing to let the state's in which we apply keep at least half our tag fees when we're not successful, then things will never change but get worse.

Money talks and $ullshit walks right? I think there is enough guys here to make those change?s happen, but not with out sacrificing some dowe $.$$ ??

And to the guy who said hunting is a privilege not a right, it wasn?t a 100 years ago. And it still shouldn't give Joe $ more freedoms or rights then I, money is needed to help secure the mule deer?s future, but it shouldn't be up to Joe $ to fund it, as we see clearly the system becomes corrupted very easily.

For this to be put back into a level playing field, every one has to contribute $'s plain and simple.

let me predict what the future may hold, the feds are going to get involved & take away the athority from the state to regulate what's, what in the hunting industry.

Donedeal?

Okay fair enough, but the whole post on the antelope island came across as being pissed cause he picked up horns, and they didn't. I haven't read a whole lot, that's just the way I interpreted it. My bad.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-16-06 AT 03:26PM (MST)[p]I can guarantee you the problem most people have is not with the MDF, but with Tony.

All he has to do is say he screwed up and I am sure most would respect it. But he won't. He keeps speaking of "supporting the average Joe"; Did he?

Tony,

Sarcasm from past posts (about a year ago) has made me question what you do. Hopefully, I am wrong about your intentions.

Remember your words of wisdom from the below post?????? Remember, "you made your own bed"

Why don't these orgs lobby for legislation or pay for the initiative drive to pass legislation?

For instance to increase fees for licenses and tag apps by $10 per. With the caveat being that ALL that money is to be held in trust for the sole purpose of purchasing and improving large game habitat?

Why? Because then they would have no cause to ask the state to GIVE them X tags to auction via their sole access channel. They'd lose control of the money, they'd lose the support and lobbying bucks they achieve with the high rollers they sell the tags to. They'd become a for the people venture soley and that just isn't as sexy as having a Basketball star pimp tags with you in a Salt Lake City Bonanza.

They could even set up a trust board of X state biologists and X members of conservation groups to vote on the best places to spend the money so that the orgs would have ongoing input on how and where the money was spent. They could make those positions elected ones so that the public could hold them accountable for their actions. There'd be all the money that's derived now from auctioning off what belongs to everyone and access would be back to a 100% equal opportunity regardless of whether a unit were managed for quality or quantity. They could even still offer a couple tags by raffle to raise extra dough.

The point is that everything they claim to achieve via large numbers of wealth tags can be achieved by another means with equal oportunity, if that's what they chose to do. They don't because this is as much about power and wealth as it is hunting and heritage. The game belongs to the state. The state is the people. The oportunity and access should always be equitably and equally afforded everyone who is a citizen. These orgs can chose any damn time to approach the funding in a way that doesn't favor wealth, it's a choice.

It's s circular agument, "We raise huge money to buy land so we deserve the tags to auction", but it's the auctioning of the tags that gets you the damn money! The state could have done that without the orgs! I appreciate that in particular groups like FNAWS are responsible for much of the restoration of sheep numbers, but they achieved much of that raising money the old fashioned way. So, either get into a partnership with ALL hunters and the state or raise all of the money without selling public property.

Ah come on, its a pretty amusing situation.

I've never in the past 6 years I've been a MM member ever gotten as much positive PMs from people laughing and agreeing as that pict as I have in the past hour.

If this were truely something about "NOTHING" then we certainly wouldnt have seen several massive threads take place as we reciently saw take place.
