LAST EDITED ON Mar-27-06 AT 06:58PM (MST)[p]Rich & I have been working on a few new projects. Along with his regular work, he has had no time. Just sit tight and maybe by weeks end he will have a new installment

I think that there is some sort of legal action or threat. We'll probabbly never get side of the story.

My opinion af Rich LaRocco is rapidly approaching my opinion of Darner. How long could it take ?? He's not having to make it up is he?? Just write it down. Shouldn't have started what you can't finish.

I think we've all been suckered into visiting Rich's site dozens of times in the past few weeks. I know a few times I have been there and have not seen a new installment, so I looked around on his site for a few minutes at the hunts he had to offer...just like he wanted me to...

ditto--thinking back on his other "installments", there hasn't been one iota of groundshattering news, just irrelevant stories that lead to nothing.

You know the world is going crazy when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the tallest guy in the NBA is Chinese, the Swiss hold the America's Cup. France is accusing the U.S. of arrogance, Germany doesn't want to go to war, and the three most powerful men in America are named 'Bush', '#####', and 'Colon.' Need I say more?

It seems as though he is writing about his past experiences with Darner so as to not be looked at or judged in the same light as Darner. What sort of ground shattering news are you expecting?

How about for starters the WHOLE story that addresses the actual specific allegations that his bucks were not harvested by him legitamately. For example, something along the lines of "in my book I was given info on the harvest of buck X and it contradicted what I found out later that buck X was actually..." or "in my book I was given info on the harvest of buck X and everything checked out". How long would it take to state the facts as he (Rich) knows them? Certainly not several long posts unless like this post alludes to, there is a alterior motive. Just my opinion.

maybe the guys running the site blocked his IP. Maybe got a threat of a libel suit... maybe he's as stupid as he'd have to be to drag this on this long.... lots of reasons.

I wonder if ole' Rich's customer service with potential hunt buyers is as slow? I sure won't find out.

Gossip Queens

I cannot believe the previous posters lives are revolving around some much anticipated dirt. I too would like to finish hearing the rest of the Darner story from Rich. Cut him some slack, unlike you he may actually have a life ouside this wedsite.

RE: Gossip Queens

This whole Darner Drama is Horse S@#t, he is a hell of a hunter with some monster bucks whom also has some questionable ethics. I for one could careless if you post the next twenty installments.

The "Legend" is getting larger with each story...whether fact or fiction.

..the actual truth of the whole matter probably isn't nearly as exciting as the next, over-due juicy installment.

Anyone got the latest on Claude Dallas???! I'll bet Billy the Kid's DNA is mixed up with all this somehow..

*Note: Again, my apologies for not getting on with this story. I'll be out of town this week and will be reachable by cell phone but won't be able to work on the tale. Feel free to call anytime.--Rich

Darner is a proven liar and probably a thief, I guess I don't get it, why the interest?

LAST EDITED ON Apr-29-06 AT 08:16PM (MST)[p]Prohunter..........while I appreciate and completely agree with your quote by Teddy Roosevelt, aren't you a guide with an outfitter who guides with paying clients for muleys on private land? Not trying to start anything at all, and honestly, no offense meant, but if that's the case, the quote you chose seems contradictory to what you do......

Nope, Teddy Roosevelt said that. Whew..If I said that, man, I could really piss off a slew of guys here who I know go on guided hunts (myself included, albiet it on the low end for pig hunts). I realize a lot of guys save their nickels and dimes to go on a guided hunt and aren't rich, so no, that's not what I was saying.

What Teddy DID say, at least how I understand those words, is that paying big $$ (he used the term rich) for big game hunting would be to the demise of big game hunting. And BTW, I would agree with that. The last thing I'd want to see for our Mule deer and Elk in Colorado, Utah, etc., is what has happened out here in Calif. on wild pig hunts. That is, a good 90% of the pigs are on private land, and almost all of the private land hunting rights are leased out to hunting guides. For people of lesser means, they will never be able to hunt a pig, or maybe once in a lifetime, which is a shame with all the pigs they have in the central coast. What I wish were the case would be that hunters would be welcomed onto private land to help reduce the numbers of pigs for the landowners and sharecroppers. But nope, money got involved...

This could get into a real spitting contest, and that's not why I asked the question. I just asked because if prohunter is a guide (I think he is), guides take money (as you know, sometimes a LOT of it for Muleys and Elk hunts, I think that falls into the category of the quote, along with using a guide to find the critter and for the most part, the "hunter" would be better described as the "shooter") and it just seemed like a wierd quote from a guide (IF that's the case). Remember, not judging, I just was asking.....

Hope that makes sense....

No I am not a guide. I like the quote and it has to do with how much big money is being spent on hunts, esp. pen hunts.

Cool, thanks prohunter, my mixup. There is another guy with your handle on another website who is affiliated with a guide service in Utah, so I thought you might be one in the same person.

As a guy who strictly hunts public land for deer, elk and upland game, I really like your quote a lot too and absolutely agree with your statement about penned hunts. To me, penned hunts are OK for people who are physically handicapped and otherwise would have no other means to hunt.

don't know that guy. yeah i am ok with someone hiring a guide on free roaming or open range animals. It just bothers me these animals that are penned with someone herding to you.

Now guys, the meats you eat everyday comes from pen raised animals so what's the deal?

prohunter, if we are going to discuss this quote then you need to post the entire quote, no ... in the middle.

Where did you find this quote?

I don't think that Teddy was refering to rich hunters with this quote. He was referring to people buying meat at the store vs. killing it themselves. You have to remember almost all hunting at that time was meat hunting. Also remember that Teddy was one of the wealthiest men in America and hunted with guides often later in his life.

>Now guys, the meats you eat
>everyday comes from pen raised
>animals so what's the deal?
>

Hey Skunkterd....you sure picked a bad day to say that....today I'm fasting. Besides, the only penned food I think I eat is chickens......and they're hardly a rich man's game :)

i found this quote at the end of a video that was showing the negative effects of pen hunting. it was the one that got jimmy houston in all that trouble.
also i don't have any problem with hiring guides. it is the pen hunts that bother me.

"The rich...who are content to buy what they have not the skill to get by their own exertions, these are the real enemies of game." Theodore Roosevelt

Prohunter,

I saw the same video and have seen that quote a number of times, but I haven't been able to verify it. Its quoted from "principles of the hunt" What is that? a book, an article, or a speech? I don't know. At any rate, I agree with the quote.

People can buy success without developing any skill and they miss the whole point. I think this often results in blood lust with no respect. It corrupts something that is wholsome.

Dallan,
Great article. Thanks for the link.

I was looking for the above quote when I found this one by Teddy. He said this 90 years ago! I love his "within the womb of time" part.

"Defenders of the short-sighted men who in their greed and selfishness will, if permitted, rob our country of half its charm by their reckless extermination of all useful and beautiful wild things sometimes seek to champion them by saying the 'the game belongs to the people.' So it does; and not merely to the people now alive, but to the unborn people. The 'greatest good for the greatest number' applies to the number within the womb of time, compared to which those now alive form but an insignificant fraction. Our duty to the whole, including the unborn generations, bids us restrain an unprincipled present-day minority from wasting the heritage of these unborn generations. The movement for the conservation of wild life and the larger movement for the conservation of all our natural resources are essentially democratic in spirit, purpose, and method."

Nice Muly,
Gifford Pinchot was Roosevelt's forestry man. He is the Father of American Forestry and "the greatest good, for the greatest number, for the most time" was their mentality. A lot of good things were accomplished all the way through the 70's with that mind set. Now that things have improved, a lot of groups want to take "for the greatest number" out of it. They just want the best of this world for a select few. A lot of modern environmental groups and a lot of hunters have something in common - a selfish mentality.
