Does any have the contact info for guides/outfitters that hunt California's Goodale Buck G-3 hunt? Thanks for your help.

I know the area pretty good, why would you need a guide? Did you buy a tag through CDA? Let me know, I can help you out, let me know, I can mark a map for you. You can see some nice bucks from the road, depending on what a trophy is to you. If you are after the big boys, hiking will be involved. It all depends on the weather, if you get lucky & get real bad weather, it will be great. If you are not in good shape, start now, it will be alot easier for you. Let me know if I can help. Mike

I might be a bit biased but if you'd like to talk about the hunt in general than please email us at [email protected]. It's not very hard to get a buck in G3 but it comes down to what you're looking for. We can put you in touch with any of our past clients for reference too.

A guide...for G3?

I think your money would be better spent on some good optics or a nice new rifle, or a South Pacific Vacation with your wife/girlfriend! A local (Bishop) guide may be able to point you in the direction of some haunts to check out...but realize that this hunt is weather dependent and can change from day to day with new deer moving into the area. As far as having a guide that has "patterned" a few good bucks...well, that's great, if the deer have been in the zone for a while before the hunt. Just know that this may not be the case. Having a guide may just be equal to having an extra set of trained eyes...For this hunt, I'd be more inclined to just recruit some of my friends...they come ALOT cheaper and have as good an eye for finding big bucks as anyone.

If you do have/get a tag for G3 and need some pointers on where to look, its no big secret! Most of us will never draw this zone anyways so we wouldnt be protecting any sacred info. I would be happy to point you in the direction of some "starting points"....

good luck!

HighSierra- Since it's a "weather dependent" hunt is exactly why some people need a guide. When it doesn't snow they don't know where the deer are other than the "hot spots" that the locals talk about. Fact is they aren't hot spots when 95% of the hunters are working them. Just my opinion...

I'll agree...a "hot spot" isnt all that hot if 95% of the hunters are working it! I can just imagine what it would be like with 24 of the 25 hunters crawling around out in the flats behind Aberdeen or driving up and down Onion Valley chasing some of the herds around. Still,in reality, G-3 is a good size zone that holds deer in just more than a couple of areas. When I helped a friend hunt it a few years back we had no problem locating QUALITY bucks and saw no other hunters up on the benches we were working. That year we were just getting the first cold storms of the season during the hunt period. All I know is that the hunters were fairly spread out that year. My buddy connected on a nice 29" buck that he was very happy with. I sure cant imagine paying a guide in excess of $1000 to have a guide tell me the deer arent down low on the morains or in the flats. Its a common sense hunt...no weather, look higher on the mountain and be willing to spend a lot of time using your spotting scope. And, since if you get a tag for this zone you are most likely a resident, how tough is it to get out and do some pre-scouting??? It's not like you are traveling out to Wyoming, Colorado or some other Rocky Mountain state.

Just my opinion though...

High Sierra, I have a little information on this hunt I would hire Jerkee, and their guides they do know their stuff and they are great guys just a little background I thought the same as you and my brother Elk Buster & his son drew this tag and shot some nice bucks but just the help with my brother talking to Jerkee about this hunt he offered some great advice for us we held out to the last weekend of the hunt and did quite well but the small pointers from the hunt 395 boys was greatly appreciated from me and my brother they know the area really good and took some nice bucks can't say enough about these guys but they really know the area well and when I get drawn this year for the area after being their me and my brother know alot more..If you can't go and scout it yourself HIRE these guys....dgmalone
