Nice cat there, thanks for the picture. All you were doing wrong was not dragging the whole URL address over to the right to get the " .jpg " included at the end of address.

Thank you kilowatt, this is driving me crazy.

This is a cat killed a couple weeks ago a few miles from my house in Eastern Oregon. He is 223lbs. and was shot off a elk kill. It's a great trophy, but I wonder how many deer he's killed in his life.

Thanks, Koyote

That'a a monster, ODFW should give a Governors deer or elk tag to anyone who checks in a lion in my opinion. the best thing you could do for our pathetic deer herds.

Great Cat, thanks for doing your part. Any story behind that monster?

I wish it was my story but it's not. Anyway's this is what I know about it. It was killed by a non-resident hunter out here on a guided pig hunt out of Spray Oregon. The guide and hunter spotted the cat on an elk kill so they raced to town and bought a Cougar tag and returned to get the cat. Well thats the story anyways, I'll bet the order in which the events took place are actually a bit different, but Im glad they got him. This is not a fluke either, people have killed several cats in the 150-180lb. range around here without intending to. I would say there is a problem. Last winter the state trapper caught 15 or 20. I hear he got in trouble by his superiors for letting out those numbers, so now this year he won't disclose how many he's got. The state of Oregon dosen't want to admit to the problem it seems.

Koyote,
Do you know the name of the outfitter? I might be interested in a pig hunt if the price is right. Any way nice cat, glad to see the son of a gun DEAD!! wish more of them would meet the same fate.

slide, The name of the outfitter is John Cole, he lives in Monument Oregon. He outfitts on DR Johnsons ranches. He also has a bunch of buffolo they are trying to get rid of.

jOhn Cole is an outstanding guide. I had the opportunity to get to know him as I lived in worked in Monument for 4 years. He guides hunters into some big bulls in the Rudio Mountains and has been taking some giant Buffalo out of Spray. Can't say what he charges, as I never hunted with him, but he is a good man and great guide who will work hard to get you in on trophy animals.

yes, that is a huge cat! I've never heard of one over 180 before. That skull should score well, I'd bet over 15'.

Don't you mean 15" (inches) not 15'(feet)???
Probably just an error on the shift key huh.

I drove down I5 today and saw several political advertisements against government trapping of cougars. It looks like the information about reducing the predators got out and the greenies are already out in force on the signs. I saw about 10 of these signs and we have until November. The signs say something like no tax dollars for government sponsored cougar trapping, wasn't sure of the wording but knew what it was about. They must have something coming up on the ballot. Just what we need, more "earthers" agendas on the ballot.

Yes he has harvested some truly awsome typical mulies too, his house is full of them. It's a shame that all these big critters are on large private tracts of land. At least there are some left in oregon because any kind of deer or elk quality on public ground is EXTREMELY rare these days. Im only 38 and I remember great hunting in eastern oregon not that long ago. Now I hunt out of state some and it's a much better experience, not as many hunters more game with quality. I never really believed the old timer stories about the big bucks here, but now I do because I find myself telling big buck stories to people and they can't believe it! I have little faith in our state managers and I really doubt it will get better any time soon.
Sorry about the rambling it's a sore subject.

John runs a great outfitting business. I actually hunted with him a couple of times in the past, he has some great leases. I sent him a email about a month ago to see if I could get a trespass hunt set up like in the past - he told me the ranch I hunted has been hit so bad by cougars that he doesn't hardly even hunt it anymore. This was a ranch you would see 25-30 bucks a day, he told me you are lucky to see 3-4 decent bucks now. So yeah we have a problem - John still kills some huge elk though for Oregon.

No Brian 15' is correct! B&C's new scoring system takes the final net score in inches and x that by 12 to get the score in feet! So a 180" cougar is the same as a 15'er!

Just making a little fun!LOL! Man, it's been a long off season!:)

Oregon doesn't have a "deer problem", it has a lion problem... And a wolf problem as well, from what I've heard and read.

Heck of a cat. What I would give to take one like that.

Question was does Oregon have a problem................I hunted eastern OR in 98',00', 01' and last year (05'). Last year we came across three mulies killed by a cat(s) (Yes, we know the tell tale signs of a cougar kill) + other signs, in very close approximity of one another. In 01' I went nose to nose with a cougar in a bunch of rocks (above a certain meadow that you OR boys probably know, yes Starkey), but the cat took off, not that I could have stuck him anyhow. The OR biologist are really PC on the cougar population, but based on the more frequent runs ins in general, the increase in archery kills and the frequent crossing of muley carcasses, the cats appear to be put'n a real hurt'n on the muleys in OR.

If your hunt'n OR in 06', better purchase that cougar tag! I know I will if I don't draw..................................

Good luck in 06'

Yes there is to many lions & to many anti hunters. the state just pass a new law allowing hunters to hunt lions with hounds again. hu-ray o! wait a minute this new law only allows state hired hunters to use dogs when problems are reported by the public. also the state figures that it will spend over 1 million annually to keep the population in check 3000 cats now cats are in 5600 range. so instead of making money on couger tags, and letting the public hunt with doqs and take care of the problem there going to spent more of our tax dollars on bullshit laws. also the state is going broke and can barley keep the schools open, and the timber money has run out and the government is now wanting to sell your blm & n.f. properties. If hunters do not unite soon we will all be considered poachers if not extinct.
